It is worth noting that in any of these sports young Starshinov showed excellent results, becoming the champion of the capital competitions. But most of all he liked football, where Vyacheslav regularly showed his bombardirskie qualities. In this game, Vyacheslav Ivanovich Starshinov was able to become the champion of the Soviet Union three times - at the championship of youth teams, as part of the student team of the MATI and at the All-Union Sports Union of Trade Unions.

Hockey

In the mid-fifties of last century, Vyacheslav Starshinov was carried away by playing hockey. And he tried his hand at playing with the ball, and with the puck. His starting point in the big hockey was a children's and youth sports school "Spartacus". In the season 1957-1958 biennium. He was enlisted in the team of masters "Spartacus", acting in the union championship. Coach Alexander Igumnov defined Starshinov as the central striker in the troika, which included the brothers Eugene and Boris Mayorov along with him. But they did not manage a well-coordinated game, and the Majors decisively announced to the coach about the refusal of the game with a new partner. The wise coach has cooled the ardor of the brothers. In his reply there were prophetic words that Starshinov should be given a term, and he will join the national team of the Union. It so happened that the brothers Mayorov became close friends with Vyacheslav Starshinov.

Forever with Spartak

Becoming a player of "Spartacus" at the age of eighteen, Starshinov 15 years was loyal to the team. Despite the fact that it was more prestigious and more profitable to play for the hockey club CSKA, to the players of which the entrance to the national team was directly opened, Vyacheslav Ivanovich never wanted to leave his native club. According to him, he would not exchange fidelity to the red-and-white flag for ranks or high salaries.

In the eternal confrontation between two great teams, Starshinov had the opportunity to prove to himself that he was important, to be confident in the level of skill. The only thing Starshinov regretted was that, being a player of Spartak, he twice did not join the hockey Olympic team because he refused to move to the CSKA camp.

Cruiser on ice

The game in "Spartacus" as part of the shock three with the Mayor brothers allowed Starshinov to become one of the best central hitters of the world hockey. His constant desire to be in the center of the struggle and focus on the gate formed in him the image of a real hockey player-universal. The excellence of the CSKA hockey team in the late fifties and early sixties was unconditional, the competition in the championship was made by the Moscow "Wings of the Soviets" and "Dynamo". In 1962, Moscow Spartak became even more confident about declaring their ambitions. Along with the shock Spartak triplet of the brothers Mayorov and Vyacheslav Starshinov, the team shone with such masters as Valery Fomenkov, Rauf Bulatov, Alexander Kuznetsov. Defensively defended his goal goalkeeper Anatoly Platov.

Spartak was led by Alexander Novokreshchenov, who managed to inspire his players to defeat the most formidable opponents. Despite skeptical predictions of specialists, Spartak won a draw in the decisive match against CSKA and became champions of the Union.

Five years later, in 1967, Starshinov in the "Spartacus" again won the title of champion of the country, and two years later, repeated this achievement.

Playing in the national team, success in the international arena

After the conquest of the championship in the union championship for the famous Spartak triple drew the attention of the national team coaches. In 1963, the brothers Mayorov and Starshinov played for the first time in the world championship as part of the national team. After an insulting defeat from the Swedes, Vyacheslav Ivanovich told reporters that the USSR will certainly become the champion. His words did not differ from the case. In the decisive match against the national team of Canada, Starshinov scored two goals, allowing the USSR team to take first place. After that, until 1971, the Soviet national team was the strongest in all European and world championships, in which the considerable merit of Vyacheslav Starshinov. In 1965 he was recognized as the best forward of the world championship.

And, of course, the most prestigious awards for Vyacheslav Ivanovich Starshinov were the gold medals of the Winter Olympic Games of 1964 and 1968.

Education, coaching

Since childhood, Vyacheslav Starshinov was not only a good athlete, but also showed excellent results in his studies. Graduated from school with a gold medal he was prevented only two quads in the certificate. Following the example of his friends and partners in the troika, the Mayor brothers, Starshinov became a student at the Moscow Aviation and Technology Institute, and a bit later, in 1964, and his graduate student. For two years of his postgraduate studies he held the position of laboratory assistant. To go along the line of aviation Sergeantinov was inspired by his cousin, during the Great Patriotic War, a former combat pilot.

His scientific activity Vyacheslav Ivanovich continued in the field of sports pedagogy, defending in 1975 a Ph.D. thesis at the Institute of Physical Culture.

In 1979, Starshinov became head of the Department of Physical Education at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Physics, where he trains and plays in the position of the center forward in the student hockey team. A little later he was awarded the title of professor and defended his doctoral dissertation, dedicated to the moral education of young students.

In 1972, the hockey game "Spartacus" did not go well. Due to the circumstances, the leadership of the team decided to appoint coach Vyacheslav Starshinov. Almost two and a half years he held this post in his native "Spartacus", but, following the unquenchable thirst for struggle, Vyacheslav Ivanovich again returned to the ice.

In late February 1975, Starshinov decided to go to distant Japan, where he becomes a playing coach of the club "Ozzy Seisi". Vyacheslav Ivanovich headed it until 1978.

Sports mentoring, hobbies

Being an unsurpassed master of domestic hockey, Vyacheslav Ivanovich passes his invaluable experience and as a talented teacher. They have done a lot for the development of children's and youth sports. He is one of the permanent heads of the club "Golden Puck". But not only on the hockey court and sports grounds, he shares his mastery with the Starshins. His vision of hockey, his emotionality, beauty and influence on the formation of character, he described in books. With great interest was read by the readers of the book Starshinova "I am the center forward", published in 1971 and instantly became a real bestseller. A little later, Vyacheslav Ivanovich wrote the books "Hockey School", "Pure Time", which gave a lot of valuable advice to the younger generation, who dreamed of growing great athletes.

Thanks to his wife, the loyalty of which Starshinov retains for half a century, he fell in love with opera and ballet performances. Weekly visits to theatrical performances entered into his mandatory rule.

Starshinov Vyacheslav Ivanovich: achievements

For his sporting career, he managed to win many different titles. He became the champion of the USSR hockey championship together with the Moscow "Spartak" in 1962, 1967 and 1969. Won victories at the world championships in hockey in a win-win series, which lasted from 1963 to 1971. In 1961, he won a bronze medal at the world championships. Twice he became the owner of gold awards at the Olympic Games in 1964 and 1968. In the hockey championship of the Soviet Union held 540 matches, in which 405 times hit the opponent's gate.

A huge contribution to the development of national sports was made by Vyacheslav Ivanovich Starshinov, whose awards were won by hard work. Among them, we can mention the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and "For Services to the Fatherland" (the latter was handed to Starshinov personally by President Putin of Russia).
