Soul Theater by Zhenovach Sergey: description, history, repertoire and reviews

The studio-studio Zhenovach is one of the youngest bands in the capital. He is just over 10 years old. Sergey Zhenovach is his creator, permanent director and director of the productions. In the repertoire of the theater there are both classics and works of contemporary playwrights.

History of the theater

The Zhenovach Theater was born after the festival of diploma theses at GITIS. Graduates of the workshop of S. Zhenovach presented their work. After the festival was over, Sergei and his recent students announced that they would stay together and create a theater team. Initially, they planned to play only their theses and performances at various Moscow venues.

But soon the repertoire expanded, and in 2008 found its STI building. The Zhenovach Theater mainly specializes in productions of little-known and previously un-staged or those that are rarely staged in our country. Although there are all known classics, which is included in the repertoire of many collectives.

The studio of theatrical art (STI), Sergei Zhenovach, was nominated 16 times and won the Golden Mask prize seven times.

Building

Theater Zhenovach settled in a historic building. In the 19th century there was a factory of the Alekseev family. She was famous all over the country. Here were made Christmas trees, church ornaments and gold embroidery yarn.

At the end of the 19th century, Alexeyev headed the factory, known by the name Stanislavsky. Few people know that Konstantin Sergeevich was also an engineer. He studied the arrangement of machine tools and various technologies of gilding. He liked the technique. At the initiative of K. Stanislavsky, a reading room was opened at the factory, a choir was set up, so that workers could become familiar with culture.

In 1895, Konstantin Sergeyevich opened a theater at his factory. The actors were workers. They rehearsed and participated in performances in their spare time.

In 1903, K. Stanislavsky bought a neighboring plot of land and decided to build on it a separate building for the theater. It was planned to show performances, concerts and arrange readings.

The stage was large, and the auditorium accommodated 250 people.

During the revolution, the government demanded from K. Stanislavsky to give the building of the theater for additional workshops for the factory, which now began to produce cables and wires. Konstantin Sergeyevich had to agree, but he set his condition that his workers, who played in the plays, would work in the Moscow Art Theater.

The studio of the theatrical art of Sergey Zhenovach settled in the building of the theater K. Stanislavsky in 2008. Before this, the building was subjected to a reconstruction, which lasted 2 years. The first performance, which was given in these walls by a young troupe, was the "Rape" based on the work of Nikolai Leskov. Dimensions of the scene remained almost the same as they were under Konstantin Sergeyevich. But the audience became a bit smaller. Now it can accommodate only 230 people. At the service entrance there is a large portrait of K. Stanislavsky, and in the lobby - images of his family members.

During the reconstruction of the building, the maximum amount of effort was applied to keep everything the way it was under Stanislavsky. The brick remained, the ceiling arches remained, the ventilation system and the copper wiring outside the walls remained intact. The chairs in the auditorium are made in the image and likeness of the old Moscow Art Theater, which adorned its branch in the 30s of the 20th century. The seats are soft, comfortable.

Sergey Zhenovach really wanted to create an atmosphere of home comfort in his theater. For this purpose, a buffet and a large table were set up in the foyer. Before the performances spectators are treated with tea, homemade jam, ice cream and even potatoes in uniform. There is a bookcase here where you can take something to read. And in the "corner of the authors" hang portraits of writers, whose works in the theater are performances.

Reviews

The Zhenovach Theater, despite its youth, is very popular with viewers. That's confirmation of their rave reviews. From viewing the performances of this theater, the audience is always impressed every time. Actors here work wonderful - talented, loving their profession. The scenery is rather laconic, but very interesting with this. The performances here are complex, multidimensional, compelling to reflect. Many spectators fall in love with this theater from the first visit and become its loyal fans.

Another plus of the theater is democratic ticket prices.

But there are also such spectators who believe that this theater is ambiguous, for an amateur, not for everyone and not for everyone, it will be understandable and enjoyable. For some, the performances seem uninteresting.
