Sexual deviations

In a narrow sense, sexual deviations (paraphilia) are a mental illness when sexual arousal and / or orgasm is achieved through atypical or socially forbidden actions. In a broader sense, this is any deviation from the generally accepted norm of sexual behavior. There are many types of disorders on the basis of erotic relationships. As a rule, they bear the name of various "philosophers" - special predilections, inclinations for anything.

The main types of paraphilia

Conditionally, sexual deviations are classified according to the object and the way the impulse is realized. In the first case, fantasy or excitement appears in relation to an unconventional object, in the second atypical method is the removal of sexual arousal.

The following types of paraphilia are distinguished by the object of attraction:

  • Homosexuality - a craving for members of their sex, is both female and male;
  • Zoophilia - sexual arousal from imaginary or real intercourse with animals;
  • Pedophilia - sexual attraction to children;
  • Gendered - an attraction to the elderly;
  • Fetishism - excitation at the sight of any object or from owning it;
  • Incest - the excitation of a real or imaginary relationship with a blood relative.

Depending on the method of satisfying sexual desire, the following types of deviation are most common:

  • Sadomasochism - the pleasure from causing bodily harm, dominance in relationships (sadism) or from their acquisition and the role of the victim (masochism);
  • Satyriasis and nymphomania - increased sexual excitability in men and women, respectively;
  • Exhibitionism - an intolerable desire of public exposure of genitals;
  • Voyeurism - the excitement of spying on the sexual intercourse of other people, or from the process of exposure;
  • Esaudarizm - the achievement of sexual pleasure from listening to the sounds accompanying sexual intercourse.

There are many other deviations in the field of sex: masturbation, petting, transvestism, early sexual life. To list them all does not make sense. It is much more important to understand what is behind this abnormal behavior.

Causes of paraphilia

The exact causes provoking sexual deviations are not fully understood. In addition to deviations in the psyche, his role can play and heredity, and disruption of the endocrine system, and even pathology and brain trauma. Quite often, the impetus for the development of paraphilia are deviations in the process of development and upbringing, including sexual ones. However, it is not possible to single out one specific reason for the violation of sexual predilections. More often speak of a complex of interrelated factors, when the emergence of deviant forms of behavior is preceded by the formation of reflex connections in response to a sexual stimulus during puberty and the onset of sexual activity.

The Dangers of Sexual Abnormalities

The degree of manifestation of paraphilia is different. Some kinds of deviation do not cause special discomfort to others and, by and large, concern only their representatives (homosexuality). Others can be regarded as inflicting moral and moral damage, or violating the rules of decency, but in general, rather innocuous (exhibitionism, voyeurism). Still others can pose a real threat to the lives and safety of others and are prosecuted by law (pedophilia, incest).

Between the definitions of norm and deviation there is a very fine line. The same action can be regarded in different ways. For example, any sexual acts with the mutual consent of partners can be considered a borderline of the norm, but the same actions, accompanied by coercion, discomfort of one of the parties, or used as a means of punishment, suppression, will be considered from the standpoint of deviations.

Treatment of paraphilia

A person experiencing an abnormal craving for anything can have problems in relationships with relatives, with public understanding, with the recognition of oneself. And yet, in most cases, sexual deviations do not require any medical intervention.

Only in situations where unusual attachments interfere with normal life activity, lead to isolation from the society, provoke feelings of guilt and suicidal intentions, one can talk about the need for treatment. However, we are not talking about the correction of sexual behavior and not about the elimination of the "harmful" predilection, but rather about the acceptance by the individual of himself, his personality, the peculiarities of his sexual behavior.

Treatment aimed at suppressing deviation will occur only in cases when a person can not control his sexual inclinations and begins to cause environmental discomfort or even a danger to their health and life.
