Lightning protection and grounding in a private house

The modern house is simply stuffed with various electrical appliances, and the private house even more so. The life support of country houses, cottages and cottages is at times entirely dependent on electricity. Therefore, even to an ignorant person in electrical matters, it is clear that special security measures are needed here.

Grounding in a private house is one of the most important measures to protect a person from electric shock. If we neglect the measures of elementary security, saving on quality grounding, in a private house, sooner or later, there may be a situation in which someone touches the refrigerator body and receives an electric shock. This happens when the insulation is damaged. However, often the cause of failure of expensive equipment or the fire of residential buildings can be a lightning strike.

Lightning protection of buildings, as well as grounding in a private house, is an indispensable element of electrical safety. In favor of the need for lightning protection, there are also figures: in the year about 20 million thunderstorms happen on the Earth, and this is about 50 thunderstorms per day.

The general grounding in a private house is part of his lightning protection. Other components of the system are lightning conductors and conductors that divert current. The discharge of lightning, falling into the lightning conductor through the conductor, leaves in the ground - this is the general principle of external protection against lightning. There is also internal protection - SPD. The lightning current when exposed to an object can cause resistive or inductive coupling, which leads to overvoltage in the network. It is from this overvoltage that the SPD protects the structure. Depending on the nature of the lightning strike - direct or indirect - there are several classes of similar devices that reliably protect the house and its occupants from the effects of overexertion. But back to external lightning protection.

It is customary to single out two of its types - passive and active. Passive, figuratively speaking, waits for a lightning strike and simply discharges the discharge into the ground. Active lightning protection takes the initiative - it intercepts the discharge and "neutralizes" it, also diverting it to the ground. Active lightning protection system Is also called a system with pre-emptive streamer emission. The difference between passive and active protection is also in the lightning-receiving elements themselves. Passive uses rods, a grid or a cable stretched between two supports. This is the most common and traditional way to protect against lightning in private homes. In addition, it is relatively cheap. In the active lightning protection system, a lightning receiving head is used, an ionizer, which responds to an increase in the intensity of the electric field. During a thunderstorm, a magnetic field forms between the earth and the sky, due to which this ionizer operates.

Advantages of active lightning protection of buildings Are as follows:

  • Large, in comparison with the passive, protection area - this allows you to organize lightning protection of a whole group of buildings;
  • The strength of the design allows you to withstand multiple discharges
  • Reliable work in any, even extreme, weather phenomena
  • Full autonomy of work
  • Easy installation and further maintenance
  • Safety lightning arrestor antenna mast
  • Aesthetic appearance.

The safety of people living in the building can be provided only on condition that the grounding in a private house was made in conjunction with lightning protection, whether active or passive.
