Recuva file recovery application: how to use?

Probably, many faced the situation when the necessary files were deleted at random or when the system crashed. Nobody is immune from this. But what to use for fast file recovery? In this respect, the free program Recuva, which has unique algorithms and capabilities, is perfect. Let's consider its use as much as possible in detail.

Recuva Recover Software: Key Features

The most important thing is that this is not just an application that allows you to restore deleted files from the Recycle Bin. This program for recovering files can search for them and perform operations even if they scan problematic or damaged media (hard drives, flash drives, MP3-players, cameras, etc.).

Moreover, not to mention the possibility of restoring some specific content, the application makes it possible to perform the so-called reliable removal of unnecessary objects. The technologies used in it are based on the fact that when you delete a file from the same "Trash", in fact, it does not go anywhere. In its name, the first character is changed, replaced by a dollar sign ($), so that the standard operating system tools do not see such an object. If the sector in which the file was located was not overwritten, the restore process will be elementary.

Recuva: how to use the installer?

First you need to install (integrate) the application into the system. The installer uses the standard "Wizard", which is followed by instructions. The program itself is of a small size and does not take much disk space.

If you do not make a standard installation, you can use a portable utility with the same name. Both versions have a Russified interface, and do not cause special difficulties in use.

Integration into the "Baskets" menu of Windows

If the user has a fixed version of Recuva, how to use it will be clear if you look closely at the "Recycle Bin" menu, which is called by the right click.

Naturally, you can run the application through the main EXE executable file or click on the program shortcut. However, the call through the "Recycle Bin" looks simpler (of course, provided that objects were deleted through it, rather than using special shortcut keys like Shift + Del or changing the global settings of the Recycle Bin so that the object does not initially fit into it ).

Options for launching the application and selecting file types

Let's turn to the practical application of Recuva. How to use this utility? As easy as pie. Run the application in any of the above ways. After that, the welcome window of the "Recovery Wizard" is displayed. In it we press the continuation button and proceed to the selection of the required types of objects.

Convenience is that you can select all files (scanning, however, takes longer), but you can only apply one type (music, video, e-mail, archives, office documents, etc.).

Once you have made your selection, press the Continue button again, and then Recuva for Windows prompts you to specify the original location of the deleted files. Here the trick is that the user can use the appropriate line if he does not remember exactly where the objects were originally stored. Again, the scan will be performed on all available media, hard disks and logical partitions.

Then we activate the scanning process and wait for the result to appear. The found files will be marked with three colors:

  • Green - full restoration is possible;
  • Yellow - there is the possibility of partial recovery;
  • Red - restoration is not possible.

Data recovery process

Then just check the necessary files and use the restore button. In this case, you will need to specify the location where the recovered copies will be saved.

This process can take quite a long time, especially if too many objects are selected.

Deleting Files with Recuva

Finally, there is one more possibility of the application, about which very few people know. In the scan results, unnecessary files that can be physically removed from the hard drive or any other media can be noted.

Let's take a closer look at the Recuva utility. How do I use this feature? Too simple. Mark the required objects with the check marks, and then right click to call the additional context menu, in which we use the string of reliable deletion. All marked objects will be deleted without the possibility of subsequent recovery.

Conclusion

Although many people believe that the Recuva data recovery is better than the rest of the programs, this can be disagreed. For example, when scanning video files, often the application marks most of the detected objects in red, which indicates the impossibility of recovery. Whoever that said, a full-length movie in the size of 1.5 GB will not be restored. But there are no problems with short movies.

With other formats, the application works quite tolerably, except that music files can not be restored either, and some objects that are not included in the list of supported formats are not displayed at all. In general, it is possible to use the program as a free and fast tool. But if you need a professional approach to these processes, it's better to use packages like R-Studio (at least for removable memory cards used in mobile devices).
