Ratio of shoes sizes of different countries

The difference between the countries of the former USSR and the United States and Europe is not only a mentality or a language barrier. The ratio of shoes sizes is also different. Choose the right clothes for us the size is often not difficult. But the correspondence of the size of shoes for many remains a mystery.

There is a special system for this ratio for each age category. For example, for most consumers, 41 size can be equal to European 36 and American sixth. When buying "live" enough to measure your shoes to choose your size. If the purchase is made via the Internet, it is better to use a special table.

It is worth noting that in most stores selling shoes on the Internet are provided in sizes in inches. In accordance with our familiar metric system, 1 inch equals 2.4 cm. Also, it is worth noting that most manufacturers make shoes in accordance with the standards of the United States, the EU countries and the UK. And they have differences between themselves.

The ratio of the sizes of footwear is calculated on several systems:

1. The metric system is the most convenient and widespread. The indicator of the length of the foot in millimeters from the protruding finger to the extreme point of the heel is the size of the shoe. Allowances for decorative pads, sock, etc. Are not taken into account. Some manufacturers of shoes indicate the size in centimeters. This is described in more detail in the international standard ISO 3355-77.

2. The ratio of the size of shoes in the French system is determined by the length of the insole. The unit of measurement is a street, which is equal to two-thirds of a centimeter. In general, the length of the insole is longer than the length of the foot due to the decorative allowance, which can differ from different manufacturers (from 0 to 12 millimeters). This quite confuses buyers when transferring the sizes from one system to another. Currently, an approximate standard of 10 millimeters is adopted.

3. Just like the French, English system measures the shoes along the length of the insole, but the stroke is one third of an inch or 8.5 mm. The zero size is equal to the heel curl of the insole by 4 inches, which is the standard size of the foot of the newborn baby. Next, the numbering alternates with the addition of one-third of an inch. In the range of children's sizes there are gradations from 0 to 13, and for adults from 1 to 13.

4. Calculation for men in the American system, the ratio of the size of shoes differs from that for women. In its scheme it is similar to English. The difference is that the zero dimension is 2.1 mm smaller (1/12 inches). Further, the order of the sizes observes the same difference of 1.3 inches. For women, the measurement starts even less, and is also numbered up to 13 sizes.

5. German shoe sizes differ from "our" by 1 point. For example, if you have a full 36 size, then according to the German system it will be 37.

For a long time in the USSR, the Stechmass system, similar to the French one, was used, but the length of the foot was taken as a basis. Such a ratio of the size of the shoe still causes confusion.

But in these different systems, too, you can figure it out. To correctly determine what is your shoe size, you need to measure the length of the foot from the most protruding points. It is recommended to do this at the end of the day, because by the evening the foot tramples and becomes bigger.
