Driving license categories

To operate the motorcycle, you need a driver's license with an open category A. The presence in the category A certificate indicates that the driver can drive two-wheeled vehicles, as well as a motorcycle with a stroller, whose weight in full equipment does not exceed 400 kg. In this category, the subcategory A 1 is highlighted , the opening of which makes it possible to control the models of motorcycles with a small engine volume.

Category B is passenger cars that have up to eight passenger seats and a mass of up to 3,500 kg. The presence of this category indicates that the driver is allowed to drive a car with a small trailer (up to 750 kg) or a transport vehicle with a total mass not exceeding three and a half tons. To drive a car with a heavy trailer, the driver must have a BE category.

For the management of trucks it is necessary to have an open category C. These vehicles include trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons, including a small trailer. To operate a truck with a heavy trailer, it is necessary to have an additional category of CE. Also in category C, the subcategory C1 and C1E are distinguished. Opening of subcategory С1 allows to operate trucks in a weight range 3,5-7,5 tons. The subcategory C1E includes trucks with heavy trailers weighing more than 750 kg, provided that the total mass of the whole composition is not more than twelve tons.

Category D in the driver's license says that the driver can carry out passenger transportations, including on transport with a small trailer. Such means include buses and fixed-route taxis, the number of passenger seats of which does not exceed eight people. The possibility to operate a bus and a minibus with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg, gives the category DE. Allocate a sub-category D1, which allows you to manage transport, which has from 9 to 16 seats, including a small trailer. To manage vehicles belonging to category D1, but with a heavy trailer, it is necessary to open the category D1E.

Category E is currently excluded from driving permits. It was replaced by the categories described above with prefix E, for example BE, DE or CE. The driver of category E can drive vehicles with heavy trailers (more than 750 kg). Under the new rules, he needs to exchange his certificate for a new one. There are two options for changing the identity card. If the driver of category E opened it before 01.01.2001, the new certificate will contain all previously open categories with the prefix E. In the case of receiving category E after this date, only those categories for which exams were passed will go to the certificate. In the new rules categories for drivers of trolleybuses and trams were created.
