"Otrivin" for children

The drug "Otrivin" is produced for adults and children in the form of nasal drops and nasal sprays. The active substance of these drugs is xylometazoline - alpha-adrenostimulant - close in structure to naphazoline (is an active substance of the drug "Naftizin"). Xylometazoline (Xylometazoline) is on the VED list. It narrows the blood vessels in the nasal cavity, eliminates the hypermia and swelling of the mucous membranes. As a result, it helps to relieve nasal breathing in rhinitis and other problems. The action of the medicine comes quickly and lasts for several hours. Spray can not be used to treat infants, since the recommended "Otrivin" spray for children over 6 years and adults. Children's drops are prescribed for children under 6 years of age and even for infants. The medicine (spray and drops) can be bought without a prescription.

In 1 ml drops of nasal "Otrivin" children contain 500 μg xylometazoline hydrochloride. Children's drops (with a concentration of 0.05%) are a colorless transparent liquid that does not have an odor. The concentration of the nasal spray on the active substance is 2 times higher, as compared with the drops: 1 ml of a 0.1% solution contains 1000 g of xylometazoline hydrochloride. The appearance and smell of the spray from the drops is no different. The auxiliary substances are the same as that of the drops. The spray is produced in polyethylene bottles with a capacity of 15 ml, equipped with a dosing device.

Xylometazoline is used to temporarily relieve congestion or nasal congestion caused by hay fever, other allergic reactions, colds or sinusitis (sinusitis). Before applying Otrivin for children or adult spray, you should release nasal passages (gently blow your nose). The patient can sit or stand, tilt his head slightly, drop the drops into each nostril. After that, he must return his head to a vertical position. The pipette is rinsed with hot water and wiped dry with a clean cloth. To clean the nose of a small child before using drops it is recommended to use "Otrivin baby aspirator nasal." When using a spray, the jet is directed into each nostril (the head is held vertically). After 3-5 minutes (after the medicine starts to work), gently and carefully bleach. The spray tip is rinsed with hot water so that the water does not enter the vial, wipe it dry with a clean cloth. "Otrivin" children's or spray can not be used with some medical contraindications. It is necessary to inform the doctor if the patient has other health problems.
