On what does job satisfaction depend?

Satisfaction with work is an assessment of the conditions, process and result of work by the staff . It can be located between "madly like" and "absolutely not like". Everybody knows perfectly well that the efficiency of the work of the personnel depends on the level of satisfaction.

One of the most important components of a person's motivation for work is the working conditions. In order to increase the desire of employees to perform their duties qualitatively, it is necessary to exclude factors that reduce their job satisfaction. But this is not enough. It is necessary to create conditions in which they would be interested and pleasant to work (for example, promotion on a career ladder, wage growth, recognition of successes, etc.).

Reducing satisfaction inevitably leads to a drop in productivity. Show reluctance to work can:

  • Delays;

  • Conflicts at work;

  • Actions that cause damage to the company;

  • Change of workplace;

  • Irritability;

  • Many other things.

In order to prevent such a decline, it is necessary to know what affects the satisfaction of employees. Let's consider the main factors:

  1. The content of the work. Prospective, demanding self-giving, interesting work, with the probability of achieving success (including personal) contributes to an increase in employee satisfaction, while boring and monotonous, on the contrary, reduces it.

  2. Physical working conditions (temperature, light, noise, etc.). The better they are, the more subordinates will be more satisfied with the work.

  3. Characteristics of the subordinate. The higher the educational level and self-esteem of the employee, the higher his satisfaction. Also, the work that corresponds to the capabilities of a person brings greater satisfaction .

  4. The social environment influences the satisfaction with work. The more mutual understanding, support, help in the team, the higher the desire to work.

  5. A well-organized management system at the enterprise helps to increase employee satisfaction.

  6. An important factor is earnings (timeliness, validity, etc.).

  7. Increases the satisfaction with the work of learning and development.

To increase the motivation of employees, it is necessary to take into account all the factors listed above.

There is one more method of increasing satisfaction, and, consequently, of labor efficiency. It consists in selecting staff, it is necessary to take into account such criteria as locus-control, self-efficacy and positive affectivity.

Locus-control is external and internal. A person who believes that everything that happens to him depends on himself, has an internal locus-control. But people who believe that the events that happen to them are the result of external factors, have an external locus-control. It is quite clear that a person with an internal locus-control is a more efficient employee.

Self-efficacy is self-reliance, determination, purposefulness. People who have a high degree of self-efficacy are excellent workers, showing the highest productivity of labor.

Well, and finally, what is positive affectivity? Positive emotions predominate in people with positive affectivity, and in people with negative affectivity, respectively, negative. It is natural to assume that positive emotions increase work satisfactoriness. The presence of negative sentiments lowers it.

If the staff consists mainly of people with high affectivity, internal locus-control and high self-efficacy, then satisfaction with work in the team will be higher. In addition, there is a so-called effect of infection. It is that if a person gets into the community of positive, cheerful, purposeful people, then he himself is recruited after such a time. And vice versa, dealing with negative people, you are saturated with the same negative emotions.
