Multimillionaire Ilya Medkov: biography, state, versions of the murder

How did Ilya Medkov become a millionaire? Why was he killed? These and other questions will be answered in the article. Ilya Medkov was a Russian businessman, manager. He was the head of the bank Pragma, the owner of the oil company DIAM. This man is one of the first multimillionaires in Russia.

Biography

Ilya Medkov was born in the family of a doctor in Moscow in 1967, on February 27. In the Chemical-Technological Institute. Mendeleev (Moscow) he entered in 1983. The first three years the newly-born student was engaged in samizdat business, and in 1984 he transferred to the journalism faculty of Moscow State University, where in 1988 he was expelled. In the same year in the publishing house Kommersant he began to work as a freelancer.

Then Ilya Medkov becomes a partner of the Moscow banker Angelika Arkady. Together with him, in 1990, in February, he co-founded the co-operative "Pragma", which dealt with the import of personal computers from the United States and Japan. In 1991, Ilya became one of the millionaires of the USSR and joined the club of young rich Russians.

After the August events of 1991, in October of the same year, Ilya Medkov created Pragma-Bank in order to legalize the intermediary functions of selling goods from state enterprises. At the beginning of the privatization, in 1992, Medkov's structures audited about 9% of all supplies of the Russian raw materials industry (including own plants in Kazakhstan and Lermontov in the Caucasus), outstanding trading houses, mass media institutions, expensive brokerage platforms on US and Russian stock exchanges.

In January 1993, the general privatization of state-owned oil enterprises began. It was on this wave that Ilya Alekseevich Medkov created the oil firm "DIAM". In the same year, he began to finance major news agencies in Russia, social movements and political parties.

He sponsored several galleries in Moscow, acted as the lead sponsor of the exhibition of Russian art in Frankfurt. In 1993, in the summer, Ilya Medkov became a partner of the French authorities who organized the Interethnic Art Show in the Paris Museum. According to unreliable information, the state of the young businessman was about 600 million US dollars.

Confrontation with the government

Ilya Medkov is a banker with a capital letter. In the summer of 1993, he was accused of "money laundering". Shortly before, in 1993, in May, Pragma-bank was dragged into semi-legal operations with fake memorial warrants and Chechen advice. As a result, from the accounts of this bank, according to the decision of the head of the 2nd department of the Moscow Main Department of Internal Affairs, Matyukhin Alexey, 4 billion rubles was written off.

The Board of Directors called the writing-off of money from the bank's accounts illegal, Matyukhin's decision was not recognized and filed a lawsuit against the Central Bank of the RSFSR.

The court ruled to satisfy the lawsuit in the amount of 3.7 billion rubles. The first Soviet millionaire Tarasov Artem said that Medkov sued against the authorities created a dangerous precedent, for which he will certainly be killed. In addition, the FSB of the Russian Federation made an attempt to incriminate Ilya with certain atrocities that featured checks "Russia", also implemented in 1991 through "Pragma-bank."

Ilya Medkov (Russian billionaire) was to be arrested in 1993, on September 18. According to Nosik Anton, Medkov was warned about this. He booked a ticket to Paris at 19:00 on September 16, but for unknown reasons stayed until midnight at the office.

Murder

So, you already know a person such as Medkov Ilya, a biography. His parents probably did not think that he would be a millionaire. In 1993, on September 17, at approximately 01:15, Medkov left the bank building and headed for the car waiting for him. Suddenly he stood up and turned to go back, but suddenly fell. The people around him thought that he had a heart attack.

Only after approaching his boss and seeing the pool of blood flowing under him, the bank's employees and security guards understood what had happened. They called an ambulance and police. Doctors, after examining the victim, concluded that he had virtually no chance of survival: the bullet hit the financier in the stomach and blew the liver.

Ilya Medkov (banker) died in the Botkin hospital in the intensive care unit. He was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.

Curious facts

Multimillionaires of Russia earned their money with enormous speed. Ilya Medkov was one of the wealthiest people in Russia. It may very well be that by 1994 he could have become Russia's first billionaire.

Ilya was acquainted with Vladimir Yakovlev, Artem Tarasov, Anton Nosik, Herman Sterligov and Boris Yeltsin. It is known that in 1989 he participated in the creation of the first Russian business newspaper Kommersant.

Artem Tarasov wrote the autobiographical novel "The Millionaire", in which he described the moment when Ilya, one of the first entrepreneurs of the Russian Federation, introduced control over the media. In 1992, Medkov began to pay salaries to outstanding information agencies in Russia and the CIS (Interfax, RIA Novosti, ITAR-TASS and Postfactum).

In January 1993, the ITAR-TASS agency launched a fictitious report on the catastrophe at the Leningrad NPP in the media . As a result, shares of famous Scandinavian corporations fell in price. And while the media prepared a refutation of false information, Medkov agents bought securities of Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian enterprises.

It is known that Sterligov Herman and Medkov Ilya were one of the youngest dollar millionaires in Russia. At the time when they earned their millions, Sterligov was 24 years old, and Medkov - 23.

From 1991 to 1993, Medkov scrolled about 10 gigantic adventures (including "stuffing" in the media the information he needed and manipulating the Chevni Checks), but they were all legal from the legal point of view. At that time, there were no such confirmed precedents in the state, as well as a solid criminal and legal framework providing for responsibility for such frauds.

The top management of the industrial sector, which was controlled by Pragma-Bank, worked former members of the CPSU Central Committee. They were hired by Medkov immediately after the August coup. This extravagant move allowed him, with the help of his managers, to conclude deals with the "red bosses" at large enterprises, which quite recently were subject to these same former members of the Central Committee.

Medkov believed that this psychological ploy was useful for business, since fear arose, genetic memory was included , and any, even the most wayward official was subordinate to his former leader.

Man of the Future

According to Nosik Anton, Ilya Medkov was not a man of the XIX, but of the XXI century. After all, he believed in the Internet when the whole society relied on soldering irons. Tarasov also recognized Makedkov as "the man of the future" in his autobiography. He wrote the following: "It immediately became apparent that this young man was not in my range ... He was absorbing information like sand water, immediately transformed them and gave out such stunning projects already connected with the Russian reality, that my spirit was capturing from the flight and the scale of it Fantasies! He earned money the way laws allowed him or their absence in Russia. Ilyusha turned into one of the first unsophisticated tycoons - he was a man of the newest warehouse, and he was waiting for a loud future. He truly created himself, unlike most modern oligarchs, whom he created nearness to the corrupt government ... "

Many assume that the contract murder of Ilya is connected with the spectacular liquidation of Otari Kvantrishvili. Nevertheless, both murders remained unmasked.

It is said that the abbreviation of the oil enterprise "DIAM" was allegedly decoded as "The Case of Ilya Alekseevich Medkov".

Reflections

Probably, when all the terms of prescription expire, the history of that time will be written by someone from the surviving, but still remembering. There will be mentioned "Pragma", and RCC, and "DIAM", and the unsuccessful negotiations in Yalta, and the 13th Park, and the computer of the Central Bank, and the dealing center, and genetic testing of the man, and the two-colored airliner, and the steep route "Butyrki - Warsaw - Pisgat - Zeev »...

Ilya Medkov did everything to be killed. He had a ticket for an airliner to Paris, departing from Sheremetyevo-2 at 19:00 on September 16, 1993. Ilya did not come to check-in. He stayed in his office on September 17 until one in the morning. Then the financier appeared on the porch (corner of Kostikov Street and 1905). In the house opposite, a killer, who was from Simonov's carbine, hid and shot him.

Ilya knew for sure that if he did not leave, he would be killed. It was not by chance that a ticket was bought for the Paris flight. Ilya himself wanted to be killed. Many, if they were in his place, would also choose death.

Offenses

The provinces in which they were going to accuse Ilya after his arrest on September 18 (to avoid that, and removed him on the 17th), mostly related to the field of white-collar offenses.

Managers of all the property of the late financier, as well as all of his loans, including "DIAM-Bank," Ilya's mother appointed people who were alien to their family: Arkady Angelevich and Comrade Bureychenko. Cooperation and friendship of these "three companions" began at the origins of cooperation, when the young men established the firm "Pragma" on Novy Arbat.

Primary capital they have accumulated on the trade of computers. In addition, Medkov, podsuetivshis, worked for half a year with Tarasov Artem in a well-known firm "Istok". The first Soviet official millionaire, it seems, wanted to put on his "Russians" checks on his fellow citizens. In fact, he "shod" them.

The enterprise, which was headed by Medkov, was also involved in the theft of public funds with the help of counterfeit "Russia" checks. The arrest of Ilya was prevented by death. It was discovered that shortly before his death he had quarreled with Angelevich and even decided to tell him to the police. The conflict occurred because of an impressive amount of money stolen on falsified securities.

And although Medkov remembered the end of such quarrels (he knew about the shooting of four people in the office of "Istok" at Krasnaya Presnya), he obviously did not expect such an outcome for himself.

Versions

What are the versions of the murder of Ilya Makedkov? Initially, it was believed that his death was connected with an incident in the office of the association "Istok", which occurred in early 1993. It was then that unknown persons shot from the PM and AKS-74 colleagues Goncharov, Smirnov, Khashagulgov and Kutyunov. Medkov raised the oil business, was engaged in charity (sponsored several exhibitions and three Moscow galleries) and banking.

It was the last factor that led to the death of the merchant. The investigation found that Medkov participated in large-scale adventures with fictitious firms and counterfeit advice notes. He created about 70 various imaginary institutions, on account of which a clever banker translated huge amounts of money. The figures are called different, although the investigation says about nine billion rubles.

If you take into account that most of the money in the Central Bank of the Russian Federation was converted and transferred abroad, the amount of thefts should be about $ 100 million. The accomplices of the deceased banker, probably, feel great, having good villas and solid accounts in Europe.

By the way, the customer, interested in Ilya's death, almost miscalculated. The killer turned out to be a very bad shooter. He got into the object only at the third attempt from a distance of 47 meters from the SCS carbine (the killer was hiding in the attic of the neighboring house). The first two bullets left markings on the asphalt.

According to Yuri Shchekochikhin (an expert on organized crime, a correspondent of the Literary Gazette), this murder as two drops of water is similar to the murder of Kvantrishvili.

Loud murders

The ordered murder of Makedkov is still covered in mystery. His name, as well as the name of his colleague Rovensky (the head of the association Pragma), flaunted in several criminal cases of impressive theft. 10 billion rubles on fake memorial warrants in December 1992 through the bank Medkov was stolen from the Central Bank of Russia by a certain enterprise, "Melissa."

Specialists of the Investigation Department of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate do not have evidence of Medkov's involvement in this crime. But in the case of theft of state funds with the help of counterfeit "Russia" checks, Interior Ministry investigators planned to arrest him in September 1993.

The investigation suggested from the very beginning that the death of Ilya, as, indeed, Rovensky and other financiers, is connected with illegal banking operations. But this evidence has not yet been found. But they found out that Medkov started his career as a driver in the foreign economic association "Istok", which was headed by Tarasov Artem.

A criminal case is still under investigation into the theft of public funds in the process of execution of "Istokom" program of the government "Harvest-90". Ilya created the Pragma Association after working at Istok. After that, he began to lead the concern "DIAM". Most of the acquaintances of Medkov disassembled this abbreviation as "Dear Ilya Alekseyevich Medkov".

Just like "Istok", the concern was engaged in oil business. It is worth remembering that in the room of "Istok" six months before the death of Medkov unknown Chechens killed four people. Including Khashegulgov, who was a former investigator of the prosecutor's office of the Chechen-Ingush republic. Investigators could not find any initiators of this atrocity, nor the executioner Medkov.

How was Ilya Medkov killed? "Diam-bank" - it was a friendly enterprise for Ilya, and it was in his office that the 26-year-old banker drank in the company of acquaintances until one in the morning. Medkov at 1:15 said goodbye to his friends and went out into the street with a bodyguard. The second guard that day did not appear at work, since his father died. Nevertheless, even if the ten bodyguards were near Makedkov, they would hardly save the ward from the killer's bullet. Another thing is a bulletproof vest. But at that moment he was not there. Although he had not removed it from himself a whole week before.

We already said that the state of Medkov was colossal. He could afford to have a decent guard. When Medkov approached his car, from the attic of the house the killer fired the first shot.

The servants of the order, who arrived at the scene of the incident, inspected the attic of the neighboring building and found there a pistol and a rifle with an optical SCS sight, carefully wiped with a handkerchief.

Today no one hopes that the murder of millionaire Medkov will be solved. Just like, for example, the death of the then-star of commerce Otari Kvantrishvili. Hardly anyone can remember the name of the child prodigy from business in almost a quarter of a century.

We already reported where Ilya Medkov was buried. His grave is located at the Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow. It is a monument to a man who created himself with his own forces, with engraving "Medkov Ilya Alekseevich, 1967-1993".

Facts from life

We can say that Ilya Makedkov's nationality is a millionaire. But seriously, there is no specific data on his nationality. Medkov broke into the list of the richest businessmen in Russia back in Soviet times in his 23 years. His counterpart Sterligov Ilya managed to outrun both the starting speed of his own success, and the amount of earned assets.

In business biographies of millionaires of that time there was much in common. Sterligov (undergraduate student) received his profit from the "Alice" exchange created by him, and Medkov quickly got his hand on intermediary services. Ilya was engaged in the sale of goods of extremely sluggish enterprises, which then constituted the lion's share of the country's industrial potential. It is interesting that both rich men did not receive diplomas of higher education.

Medkov was an anecdotal character, only real. He flew to Paris in a private plane, followed by a caravan of so-called model models. They were supplied to France by whole agencies.

Many say that Ilya spent every night with girls, and every time - with different. Despite the fact that the financier weighed no more than 50 kilograms, was of tiny growth and had one kidney, the guy was noted for his breadth of soul and colossal masculine power. He bought diamonds for his long-legged beauties, soaked them in baths with champagne, rushed to race cars on freeways and often got into accidents.

In fact, Medkov lived to its fullest. And at this time, his partner Angelevich, who is pretty fed up with all these games, worked in Moscow. In the end, Arkady suggested Ilya to divide the business.

The case of the murder of Medkov today is in the category of so-called wood grouses. It is quietly covered with dust in the archival basement of some capital prosecutor's office. He was never disclosed. But the fact remains. In general, the 1990s became famous as a period of loud murders of prominent figures of politics and business.
