Making a sentence with a phraseology is simpler than a parrot turnip

Phraseological units, stable small indivisible word combinations, and winged expressions are often used in everyday speech. Thanks to these accurate, vivid sayings, it becomes more alive and emotional. The words that enter phraseological vocabulary most often do not correspond to their lexical meaning and are not used literally, but in a figurative sense; nevertheless, everyone understands what is at stake. For example: to run without looking back - very quickly, the devil on the waders - somewhere very far away, the Achilles' heel - a vulnerable place, to buy a cat in a poke - to buy the goods, not knowing anything about its merits.

Why do we need phraseological units

Sometimes, to achieve the desired speech effect, it is difficult to find clear and figurative words. Phraseologisms help more accurately and emotionally convey irony, mockery, bitterness, love - all human feelings. They give an opportunity to express their thoughts more clearly and bring it to the interlocutor.

Often using phrases in everyday speech, we do not even notice it, we do not think how to write a sentence with phraseology - we just say it automatically, because the winged expressions are familiar and familiar to every person since childhood. Many of them came to us from legends and fairy tales, from other languages and eras.

Is it easy to formulate a sentence with phraseology? It's easier to steam turnip if you know their main signs.

Signs of phraseology

  1. Phraseological units - word combinations are absolutely stable, they do not tolerate arbitrary replacement or miss words, as well as their unmotivated permutation. For example, you should not say "spit in the ceiling" (sit back) instead of saying "to spit out the window" (the expression takes on a literal meaning).
  2. Many phraseological units are replaced in one word: face to face (alone), a drop in the sea (a little), though more (many).
  3. If you make a sentence with phraseology, then regardless of the number of words, it is one member of the sentence (subject, predicate, circumstance, etc.).
  4. Phraseological units have one or several different meanings: grandmother's tales-tales; To go crazy - to lose one's mind - to do stupid things - to get carried away with something or someone.

On the correct use of phraseology

To properly form a sentence with phraseology, you need to accurately understand its meaning, it will help to avoid ridiculous speech errors. It is inadmissible to use distorted versions of stable phrases, inappropriate or incorrect application of them. Here is a simple example: "Today, seeing off the students of our school in the last way, I want to tell them words of farewell." There is an example of the misuse of phraseology: seeing off in the last way means participating in a funeral.

The same word combination can be used both literally and figuratively. Here is a simple test: in the examples below, indicate the sentence with the phraseology:

  1. Finally, the spring came to the river, the ice began to move.
  2. The ice has started, gentlemen of the jury.

It is obvious that in the first sentence words are used in their direct meaning, in the second sentence it is a phraseology, meaning that the matter has begun.

The role of phraseological turns in various speech styles

The use of phraseological units and winged expressions in journalism, fiction and simply in colloquial speech is associated with their imagery and expression, rich in expressive possibilities. They help to avoid patterning, facelessness and dryness in speech communication. For example, the expression "to pass through fire and water" is a figurative designation for overcoming all obstacles.

Book phraseological units in this case have a higher expressive-stylistic coloring and give speech poetry, solemnity. Conversation and everyday sayings allow expressing familiarity, irony, contempt, etc.

Phraseological units are almost always figurative, vivid expressions. This is an important tool of the language, used as ready-made comparisons, definitions, as emotional characteristics of the surrounding reality.
