Lacquer PF-170: specifications, application

As practice shows, paint and varnish works are today one of the most common when you need to decorate surfaces. Among other things, alkyd varnishes should be distinguished , which can have different functional purposes. Such mixtures are chosen taking into account the operating conditions of the bases and the loads on them. But for a good result it is also important to properly prepare the surface.

Varieties of varnishes

Varnishes are classified according to a variety of parameters, for example:

  • Technological properties;
  • Appearance;
  • Chemical composition.

Such materials can have different degrees of shine and resistance to mechanical stresses. On sale there are priming varnishes which are put under a finish covering and have ability to strengthen coupling of materials. One of the most optimal in quality and price are water-soluble varnishes. They are made of solvent, water and emulsifiers.

If we look closer to varnishes based on oil resins, we should highlight alkyd compounds, which are obtained from natural raw materials. They contain linear and wood oils, which can penetrate deep enough into the structure of the wood. Among other paint and varnish materials can be identified varnish PF-170, it will be discussed below.

Application area

PF-170 is an alkyd resin in a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons, to which special substances are added during the production process. A composition is intended for decorative protective blocking of products from:

  • Plywood;
  • Fiberboard;
  • Wood;
  • Particleboard;
  • OSB;
  • MDF;
  • Ceramics;
  • Metal;
  • Surfaces painted with oil-based pentaphthalic enamels and glyptal soils.

PF-170 varnish is used to impart protective properties and additional shine to surfaces. The material can be used inside and outside the premises. It is used in the role of a functional additive to improve the quality characteristics of pentaphthalic enamels, which acquire a higher atmospheric and wear resistance. The described lacquer gives them greater gloss and high adhesion.

Basic properties

Lacquer PF-170 is manufactured in accordance with state standards 15907-70. With its help, it is possible to form a high-gloss transparent elastic protective film that is resistant to aggressive external environment, industrial oils and cleaning solutions.

The material allows you to emphasize the natural beauty of wood, does not deprive it of the ability to breathe, has a steady gloss and high adhesion to the base. Among the main properties of lacquer can be identified its economic consumption.

Specifications

PF-170 lacquer is sold in tin cans, the volume of which can be 0,8 l and 2,5 l. If you wish, you can buy lacquer in bottles, their volume is 0.5 and 1 liter. Described material is colorless glossy, applied by roller, brush or spray gun. If one layer is formed, then the consumption per 1 m 2 will be approximately 50-100 ml. The final value will depend on the application method and the variety of the surface.

Lacquer PF-170, the characteristic of which is presented in the article, will dry out during 12 hours. Grind the base, as well as apply the next layer on it in a day. The drying time is actual with an air humidity of 60% and a temperature of 25 ° C. As the film-forming substance is an alkyd resin. If necessary, dilute the material, you can use white spirit or solvent "Rolaks RC-005".

Additional technical characteristics

Lacquer PF-170, the GOST of which is mentioned in the article, has a conventional viscosity in the range from 40 to 60 VZ-246, which is true at temperatures up to 20 ° C. This parameter is measured using a viscometer, or VZ-4 instrument. Non-volatile substances among the ingredients are contained in a volume of 48 to 52%.

According to the pendulum device, the film hardness is equivalent to 0.25 conventional units. Up to the third degree, the varnish layer will dry for 72 hours, which is true if the air temperature varies between 18 and 22 ° C. Drying time is reduced to 3 hours if the ambient temperature is between 90 and 95 ° C. The film shows resistance to static action of water for 24 hours at a temperature of 20 ° C. Elasticity of the film with a bend is 1 mm. The film is resistant to the static action of the gasoline toluene mixture for 15 minutes if the ambient temperature is 18 to 22 ° C.

Instructions for use

Varnish PF-170, the technical characteristics of which are presented above and can be useful to you, is applied to a pre-prepared surface, which must be as strong as possible, clean and dry. The substrate must first be freed from biological, fatty and other contaminants. If it is planned to apply on untreated wood, then its surface must be covered with a wood-protective alkyd primer. Before use, the formulation is mixed and, if necessary, it can be diluted with the aforementioned solvents.

PF-170 varnish with aluminum powder is applied to the surface at temperatures ranging from +5 to +25 ° C. The humidity should not exceed 80%. Application should be carried out in a thin even layer with a roller, brush or spray gun. In order to obtain a complete coating, it is necessary to apply the composition in two layers, the first of which should be ground.

Immediately after completion of the work, the tool must be washed with a solvent. The product remains in the container until further use. Transportation and storage of the material must be carried out in factory sealed packaging at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C. It is important to exclude the possibility of direct sunlight falling on the material and the container in which it is stored. Work should be carried out in a well-ventilated area. The master during the application should use rubber gloves and respiratory and eye protection.

Additional surface preparation recommendations

PF-170 varnish, the application of which must be carried out in accordance with the instructions, can be applied to wooden surfaces, which are previously grinded and scraped. It is recommended to de-dust the substrate. In order to achieve a positive result, it is possible to treat the surface with a filler, stain or linseed oil. Before applying the varnish on the metal, it is cleaned to a sheen of scale and rust. After that, the substrate is degreased and dust-free, for which it should be wiped with a rag, previously moistened in white spirit.

Conclusion

PF-170 varnish is also used for obtaining weatherproof coatings on surfaces of aluminum and its alloys. The base is pre-prepared. If it is necessary to increase the glitter of glyptal and pentaphthalic enamels, varnish is added to their ingredients. After drying, the layer must be uniform and transparent, without streaks, foreign inclusions and wrinkling.

Up to the first degree, the varnish will dry for only 8 hours. The application of the material can be carried out by dipping. In addition, for dilution, it is possible to use a solvent, xylene or a mixture of one of these solvents with white spirit. This variety of varnish is produced today by many manufacturers. In order to make a choice, you can be guided by several factors, for example, the cost or fame of the supplier.
