How to spell "not" with adverbs: examples. "Not" together and separately with adverbs: the rules of writing

(He) far is a wonderful forest,

Full of mysteries and miracles.

In it (not) it is bad to take a walk

(He) for a long time to get lost.

This poem will help us identify the problem: a merged and separate writing is not with adverbs.

Adverbs

There are words in Russian that are used to indicate the sign of an action, an object or a sign of a characteristic. They are called adverbs. Below are given examples not in conjunction and separately with adverbs. For example, with the adverbs of the mode of action:

  • He looks cheerful, unhappy;
  • Greeted joyfully, joyously;
  • I listen carefully, inattentively.

With adverbs of measure and degree:

  • Very, not very much;
  • Too (not too) weakly;
  • With a vengeance (not with a vengeance) enough.

With adverbs of time:

  • A long time ago (recently) came out;
  • I'll write tomorrow (not tomorrow);
  • We'll get together in the evening (not in the evening).

With adverbs of the place:

  • Here (not here) we will gather;
  • Far (near) was;
  • From the inside (not from the inside) looked.

Before you, examples are not confluent and separate from adverbs: not bad, not far - not at all bad, not at all far. What does it depend on? This we can learn from the rules governing this spelling.

Adverbs that can be replaced by synonyms

Synonyms are words that can replace each other in a sentence. In the case of such an opportunity, it is written not together with the adverb:

  • Yesterday you performed well (well)
  • At the rehearsal, come to the club "Hudson", it's not far (close).
  • He began to sing softly (quietly).

If it is difficult to replace with a synonym, you can use the expression:

  • It will not be soon (after a long time).
  • The concert did not last long (a short time).
  • The boy answered uncertainly (without certainty).

The adverbs that are not used without "not" are mixed with "not"

More examples of words that are not written together are sloppy, indignant, hateful.

The merging spelling in this case is explained by the fact that the word without can not be used. For example:

  • My deputy took care of his duties carelessly.
  • He somehow ridiculously waved his hands.
  • The entertainer looked unattractive, at first sight.

The negative adverbs are mixed with "not"

Split and separate writing is not with adverbs often depends on part of speech. For example, one always needs to write together with non- negative pronouns:

  • Our team has nowhere to conduct rehearsals.
  • It was no longer necessary to strive for something bigger.
  • The city was a stranger, there are no friends, there's nowhere to go.

Adverbs are written separately, if there is opposition

If you think about it, and there are examples that are not the same and separate from the adverbs, you must always pay attention to whether or not there is an opposition in the sentence. It can be expressed by an adversarial alliance "a", can only be implied and not expressed. If there is an opposition, the adverb with "not" is written separately.

  • I should have acted honestly, but humanly.
  • Contrary to his expectations, the meeting was not boring, but fun.
  • The children were not quiet - they made noise.

In the presence of some words adverbs are written separately from "not"

Adverbs should be written separately from "no", if any of the following words apply to it: absolutely, in no way, not at all, never, at all, far. Although without this word it will be written together.

Examples of "not" merged and separated from adverbs

apart

Cohesively

His assumption was wrong.

It was not cold outside at all.

It was completely cold outside.

It turned out to be completely unclear.

Then it turned out to be unclear.

He did not talk funny.

I felt that I was being foolish.

With some adverbs "not" are written separately

It must be said that "no" is spelled separately with almost all dialects, except for ending in -o and -e, those that are not not used, and negative ones.

Examples of adverbs that are written together separately

apart
