How to prepare jam from red ashberry

Red mountain ash is a very common berry in the territory of Russia. It can be found not only in forests, but also in parks. At the same time jam from red ashberry is not very popular, since not everyone can cook it, although theoretically they know that this berry is edible. In fact, this dish has an amazing taste, it perfectly combines acidity and sweetness, creating a unique aroma.

Another misconception associated with this dish is that it should be prepared for five minutes. Therefore, on the Internet you can find a recipe for jam "five-minute". However, in fact, this refers to a dish made from black berries or it was meant that the time of heat treatment of mountain ash is five minutes.

Ingredients of jam

To prepare it you will need:

- water - 0,5 l;

- berries of red mountain ash - 1 kg;

- sugar - 1 kg.

Berry selection

Rowing is necessary when it is ripe. Some believe that this should be done in winter, when the leaves fall from the plant. In fact, do not wait that long. Fruits ripen in the middle of autumn and are suitable for consumption, although some housewives prefer to prepare jam from red mountain ash in September.

Preparation of berries

First, rowan is separated from the branch, the spoiled fruits are removed and washed thoroughly. Then bring the water to a boil and immerse the berries in it. They should be cooked for only fifteen minutes, after which the fruits immediately get out and put under cold running water. To do this, it is better to use a metal sieve, because only this way you can blanch the ashberry, quickly cool it and save the water where it was cooked.

Syrup

Next, you need to make a syrup from the broth. So jam from the red ashberry will retain all its taste and useful properties. To do this, pour sugar into the boiling broth and cook over low heat until it dissolves completely. The next step should be done very carefully. First turn off the fire under the syrup and, as soon as the bubbles cease to appear, immerse the fruit in it. In this state, jam from red ashberry is left to be infused for 12 hours.

Cooking

When time runs out, the dish is put on the fire again and brought to a boil. Then the fruit is boiled for an hour until completely ready. At the same time, cans are sterilized. After the jam is cooked, it is placed in a container and covered with lids. Then the cans are turned over and covered with a towel for uniform heat exchange and cooling.

Serving on the table and storage at home

This jam is quickly prepared and allows for a short period of time to do a lot of workpieces. They will be stored for quite a long time and will perfectly fit as a filling for baking. Also, this jam will serve as an excellent ingredient for tea or an ordinary dessert. The table can be served in a small deep saucer or special dishes. It should be noted that this berry has a lot of medicinal properties and can be used to prevent many diseases.
