What kind of berries are not present in our forests! Red, blue, black, yellow, very different. The red berry of any plant is always appetizing in appearance. Bright, beautiful, with a glossy cask, it hangs on a branch between the green leaves. The hand stretches and pulls it and puts it in your mouth. But be careful! Not all red berries are safe. There are among them ruthless poisoners, having eaten which, you can pay with life. Wonderful plants gave us nature. These are raspberries, strawberries, wild rose, cranberries, viburnum, lemongrass, cowberry and many others. Their red berries are known to everyone and, perhaps, everyone knows about their benefits. They cook jams and compotes, bake pies and prepare tinctures, they are eaten raw and successfully used in medicine. But on forest glades you can meet no less beautiful red berries, which need to be avoided. The people dubbed them "wolf", although each of them has its own name.
Honeysuckle
This decorative shrub is often called wolfberry. It occurs not only in the forests practically throughout Russia, it is also planted as a hedge. Honeysuckle has rather beautiful cream, white or pink flowers that the bees like. Among the many varieties of this plant there are edible.
Lily of the valley
This delicate fragrant flower, pleasing us in the spring, is unusually toxic. The fruit of the lily of the valley is a round red berry, located on a stem on thin, slightly curved stems. Lily of the valley grows almost everywhere - in deciduous, coniferous and mixed forests, in oak forests, in gardens and flower beds. Especially it likes the edges and glades with a rather moist soil.
Wolfheart the Deadly
Wolves, wretch, wolfberry are all one and the same shrub with red berries. You can see it in the forests of Russia right up to the Arctic zone. It blooms before other trees and shrubs, decorating the edges in March. The berries are bright, juicy, very beautiful, about the size of a cherry bones.
Swamp white-winged
This very beautiful graceful plant is commonly known as calla. It is grown on flowerbeds, used in bouquets. In nature, a calla is found where there is sufficient humidity. It grows in the European part of Russia, and in Siberia, and in the Far East. All its parts are poisonous. The flowers of the calla are small and inconspicuous, collected in yellow cobs . They decorate their white veil, taken by many for a large petal.
Voronets
This herbaceous plant with red berries can be found in coniferous and mixed forest belts, on boggy hummocks, on clayey and stony slopes. Sometimes it is used in gardens as a decorative flowerbed decoration, mainly because of beautiful carved leaves. The Voronets have many other names, among them the bugbearer (because of the unpleasant smell), the stink, Khristoforov's weed, again the wolf berries. The crow grows in May-June. On the spot of small white flowers, which stay on the stem for only a couple of days, berries appear.
Arum
The plant's external appearance is reminiscent of a calla, only the veil is not white, but dirty-green-lilac, similar to decaying meat. The smell is about the same. This is necessary for the plant to attract the scavengers and dung flies - its only pollinators. But the fruit of the Aronian is quite pretty.
Nightshade is bitterly bitter
In the family of Solanaceous about 1000 species. Poisonous is one with a variety of berries red. Black berries are quite edible, they even cook jams, compotes, bake pies. The nightshade occurs in many regions of Russia, Ukraine, Moldavia, and Belarus. It grows like weeds. Some gardeners plant it to decorate fences and hedges.
Red elder

Some authors give recommendations on how to recognize whether berries are poisonous or not. One of the main signs of safety is the use of berries in food for birds and animals. However, focusing on this, you can pay with life. So, birds without the least harm to themselves eat berries of spindle grass, elderberry, nightshade, honeysuckle and other poisonous plants. In order to avoid trouble, you need to be guided by another rule - if you do not know what the red berry is called and what it is, do not touch it. According to statistics, poisoning by berries is more frequent among children. Adults should explain to them what berries grow in their area. If, however, the poisoning occurred, before the ambulance arrives, it is necessary to rinse the affected stomach, give adsorbents to drink and ensure peace.
