Group Skillet. History of the creation of the musical collective.

The Skillet group was founded in 1996 by John Cooper. The collective propagandizes the Christian faith and the evangelical position. Discography of the group includes 9 successful albums. During his career, musicians were nominated for two dozen different awards.

Creating a team

The founder of the group John Cooper always dreamed of a team in which he could be a front man. In the mid-90s, people's musical preferences changed a lot. Heavy and pop metal are a thing of the past, they were replaced by grunge. This musical direction was to John's liking. The dream of creating your own team could become a reality. Because of his Christian preferences and the influence of different musical directions, John called the Skillet team. Biography of the band begins in Memphis, Tennessee. Here also the first performances of the musical group took place.

The pastor has always admired the musician's talent. Once he proposed to create his own team, along with soloist Fold Zandura Ken Sturt. After the joint performance the pastor decided to become the producer of the group and create a Christian music group. Later they were joined by Trey McLarkin. He was not a fan of rock and decided to help the guys until they find a real fanatical drummer. At the same time John began to train his voice under the grunge vocal. But because of the strong influence of Christian music in the end turned out to be a voice hybrid. The vocals resembled the music of Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. The name Skillet ("frying pan") meant an admixture of different musical directions.

Label Ardent records and recording of the first albums

The group Skillet quickly became famous and won the hearts of the first fans. Within a month the label Ardent records invited the team to collaborate and record the first album. Work on recording their debut album helped them Paul Embersold. In November 1996 the band released their debut album with the same name "Skillet". The songs "Saturn", "Gasoline" and "I Can" gained special popularity. After the decline in popularity on the grunge team decided to change the style of performance. In their new songs they added an electronic sound. Skillet began to compare with Nine Inch nails.

During the recording of the second collection of "Hey You, I Love Your Soul", the band's team represented in what rhythm, the genre of performance they need to compose songs. After that, the musicians tried to collaborate with the major label. They worked with all firms, but because of the Christian content of their tracks, Skillet was never able to sign a contract. The super-hit "Locked in a Cage" won the hearts of many fans. But as soon as the labels learned that the Skillet team were Christians, they immediately refused to cooperate. As a result, another release of the group was released on Ardent records.

Cardinal changes and the first glory

In 1998 John Cooper's wife, Corey Cooper joined the team. She invited the team to go on tour to Europe. The participants supported this risky idea. And the risk was justified - the concerts were marvelous. At the end of the tour, John and Cooper continued to conduct worship services in the Memphis church. In 1999, the team underwent cardinal changes. Ken left the group and Kevin Haland took his place. Later, the musician confessed that he gave too little time to his beloved wife and two children, so he left the band and found a less busy work.

Already together in Kevin the musicians started recording the third collection. In the beginning of 2000 the band Skillet released the third album "Invincible". In this collection the post-industrial sound became the most pronounced and modern. The song "Rest with Invincible" was included in the top five tracks of the year, according to CHR. The musical composition "Best kept secret" received a rotation on MTV. It is this song is called the most important hit of the collective.

After the release of this album, the popularity of Skillet began to gain momentum. The staff noticed the media, their clips were twisted on the channels, the tracks sounded on the radio stations. The group was loved by millions of fans for the kindness and sincerity of the songs.

To date, Skillet has 4 members. The main are the founder John Cooper and his wife Corey Cooper. Back-vocalist and drummer is now Jen Ledger. Seth Morrison became a solo guitarist.
