Engine oil for a diesel engine with a turbine: choice, brands, reviews

Lubricating fluid for diesel and gasoline engines differ from each other. What is the difference and what kind of oil should be poured into the diesel engine? This will be discussed in the next article.

Diesel load

Under more precise formulations of all the requirements that motor oil for a diesel engine with a turbine must match, it is necessary to understand the working process of a car that is different from what happens to a gasoline unit.

Diesel engines are subjected to a greater thermal load and operate on fuel more efficiently. At the same time, formation and combustion occur much faster. Therefore, it is much more difficult to realize complete combustion of fuel, and as a result, many soot particles remain. Because of the high pressure in the combustion chamber, the gases break through into the crankcase. As a result, the lubricating fluid oxidizes much more. The process of the so-called aging of the oil goes much faster.

Aging grease

This aging occurs when the lubricant properties begin to change when the motor is running. It gets mechanical residues, contaminating the liquid, as well as water and particles emitted from the wear of engine components and combustion of fuel. At the same time, the oxidation process takes place, and the oil with all the additives quickly works out its resource. At the same time, a part of them burns, when the lubricant is consumed in the fire. Even faster this process occurs in older motors. Therefore, it is so important that the oil works by one hundred percent, ensuring the best possible performance of the engine.

Distinction of oil for the diesel unit

Motor oil for a diesel engine with a turbine has several other additives than on gasoline power units. In view of the fact that the fuel does not burn completely, the amount of detergent and dispersant additives in it should be much larger. Due to one of the properties, the particles are able to be in a suspended state. The other provides a reduction in the formation of carbon deposits on the elements of the gas distribution mechanism and the cylinder -piston group. Since there is a lot of sulfur in the diesel fuel in order to reduce oxidation, a greater number of additives of alkaline and other oxidative processes are introduced into the engine oil for a diesel engine with a turbine.

In addition, new developments in the field of fuels and lubricants allow the development of new formulas of oils having universal properties and viscosities.

Viscosity and class (total)

Consider the designations adopted in the world for oils intended for different types of motors. So, the viscosity level is denoted by the SAE index (for example, 5W30). Then the quality of the oil is indicated by the API (for example, SF / CC). What do these letters mean?

The first of these, "S", indicates that the oil can be used for gasoline units. The second, "C" - permits application for diesel engines. Recording by means of a separating fraction shows the versatility of the liquid, that is, it can be used for both one type of engine and the other. The second letters reveal the level of the properties of exploitation, in other words they are a class of quality. A high level of requirements lies in the distance from the beginning of the Latin alphabet. That is, the further the letter from the beginning, the higher the quality.

For diesel engines there is such a classification:

  • SS - mean atmospheric diesel or equipped with moderate supercharging and capable of operating under difficult conditions;
  • CD - mean high pressurization and operate not only in severe conditions, but also on fuel with a high sulfur content;
  • CE - denotes a high pressurization for production after 1983;
  • CF-4 - speaks of four-stroke after 1990;
  • CG-4 - after 1994, where the performance of CF-4 is better, meets higher requirements for toxicity;
  • CA and CB oils are not sold, and CD-11 and CF-2 can be used for two-stroke diesel units.

In addition to the API specification, engine oil for a diesel engine with and without turbine, as well as a motor oil for a gasoline unit, is classified according to ACEA.

For diesel engines, it looks like this:

  • В1-96 - for cars without turbocharging;
  • В2-96 - for cars with turbo-supercharging or without;
  • В3-96 - for light cars with a supercharged or without extra-class;
  • E1-96 - for trucks with high supercharging,
  • E2-96 is the same as E1-96, but improved;
  • E3-96 - trucks with high supercharged extra class.

Viscosity and class (conclusion)

In modern passenger cars without a charge, CD or B1 oils and upwards should be used, and in turbodiesels produced after 1990 - CE or B2 class and above. Such overstated requirements for turbocharged engines are not only due to increased loads, but also become a guarantee of the durability and long service of such an expensive pleasure as a turbocharger.

The viscosity index is also important. Everybody knows that this parameter speaks about the summer, winter or all-season oil. Summer oils are the most viscous and their number can be, for example, 30. All-season oils have properties of both summer and winter, thanks to the presence of dampening additives. In this case, you should know that not all vsesezonki good for diesel engines. For example, a viscosity such as 10W30, is capable of starting the engine with a cold start. However, for modern units its class is insufficient. The viscosity class suitable for the vehicle is always indicated in the instruction manual, and this parameter must be fulfilled. After all, this is the best oil for a diesel engine.

Mineral or synthetics

Not so important is the oil base of the oil, as the above-mentioned indices of class and viscosity. When you select this parameter, you usually follow the optimal price-quality ratio. Of course, the operation on the mineral water will be cheaper, but diesel oil for turbine engines on a synthetic basis has more stable and reliable characteristics throughout the life. Therefore, the wear on the engine will be less on this fluid, thereby increasing its resource. Synthetics are also better at low temperatures.

However, do not think that diesel oil for turbocharged engines can only be synthetic. If the mineral water meets the quality and viscosity, it can also be used freely for diesel engines.

Oil "Mobil", "Lukoil", "Shell" or "Castrol"?

When it comes to the manufacturer, this issue often causes difficulties not only for the usual car owner, but even for the mechanic. Until recently, there was simply no choice for the Soviet man. There were two types, and there was no dispute about this. But today the assortment of oils is so wide that it can easily be lost. Nevertheless, stopping at any one of them, it is better not to change the brand, and stick to any one manufacturer.

Variants of oils according to API specification

Class CJ-4. This specification appeared in 2006. These oils include:

  • Shell Rimula 15W40, Rotella T6 0W40;
  • Oil "Lukoil" for diesel engines "Avangard Professional" LA 15W40;
  • Others.

Class CI. Can be used with and without turbo. Among them:

  • Mannol Diesel Turbo 5W40;
  • Oil "Mobile" Exxon Delvac 1 ESP;
  • and others.

Class CH is suitable for high-speed diesel engines four-stroke. These include KIXX Dynamic 15W40 and others.

Class CG-4 is suitable for aggregates with the level of toxicity adopted in the USA in 1994.

Class CF-4 will suit diesel engines since 1990 of release. Among them, for example, WOLF Motor Oil 133/30.

Class CF-2 is used for two-stroke generators and power plants.

A few words about oil

It happens that motorists, after discovering in the tank blackened oil after 500-1000 kilometers, are afraid that it has already deteriorated, and even believe that it is already necessary to replace the oil in the diesel engine. But this is not so. There is nothing terrible in this blackening, since it simply produces soot, and also the work of the additives mentioned above is activated.

There is an opinion that the use of high-quality synthetics increases the service life of oil. And this also does not correspond to reality, because using consumables that have already worked out their own will be even more harmful.

Many are asking questions about whether to use five-minute flushing as a diesel engine. According to the author, these tools are not only useless, but in some cases they can damage the engine. Therefore, if you do a washing, the remedy for it should not be washing, but a high-quality oil for diesel engines, the price for which is the same as for all similar liquids. It takes this procedure more time, in contrast to special five-minutes, which are too aggressive, and together with the deposits are able to wash away the deterioration and the rubber elements located nearby and so on.

As for the utility of using additives and additives, it is difficult to answer unambiguously. However, it is clear that all the necessary additives are already present in the oil itself, and the stories that they will improve the state of the already operating oil refer more to advertisements for the sale of special funds and to methods of earning money on this. They are often not based on the real benefits of lubricating fluid.
