Dodgy Doran Martell from the novel "Game of Thrones"

Everyone who read the book "The Game of Thrones" knows Prince Doran Martel as an intelligent, cunning and very cautious man. In this article we will tell you about this hero and about what differences there are in the plot lines of the film and the book.

Who is Prince Doran Martell

This character is the prince of Dorn and the lord of the Sun Lance. He has a younger brother Oberin, nicknamed the Red Serpent for his ferocious character. Also, Doran had a younger sister, who was killed by Grigor Cligan during the overthrow of the Mad King. Doran Martell is an incredibly cautious and prudent person. He is not inclined to hasty actions and always makes complex plans.

Doran has a spouse with whom he does not live. Twenty years before the events described in the book, Doran met Lady Mellario. Then they decided to marry. But the difference in character and upbringing prevented them from living happily, so Lady Mellario left for home. At the same time, Doran Martell decided to keep his children, spoiling his relationship with his wife even more. Because of the laws of Västerås, marriage was not canceled.

The plot line of the Prince of Dornia in the series

After the outbreak of the civil war, Doran Martell (actor: Alesander Siddig) convenes his banners, but clearly does not hurry to enter the war. Tirion sends a mail crow to Dorn with a proposal to extradite Mircella (daughter of Cersei) for Tristan Martella, thus securing the alliance of the Martellus and Lannister. In this case, Doran himself could receive additional land and castles, and also take an honorable place with a small council. A separate and somewhat ambiguous paragraph in the letter was the promise of extradition to Dornu of the murderers of Elia Martell and her children. After receiving the consent of the prince, Tirion sends Mirzella to Dorn. Doran, aware of how dangerous the Martell and Lannister Union can be dangerous, asks Areo to protect himself from the imminent threat.

After some time, at a joint dinner with Jama, Tristan and Ellary, Doran says that his loyalty to King Vesteras is indestructible and that he is ready to send Mirzell and Tristan to the capital. The last must take the place of Oberina in a small council. After this, Doran forces Ellary, under the threat of execution, to swear allegiance to him.

Soon after, Jame, Mircell and Bronn leave Dorn. Ellary, wetting his lips with poison, kisses Mirzell and wishes her a pleasant journey. After sailing, Ellarya drinks an antidote, and Mirzaella dies in the hands of Jamie.

When the crow flew to Dorn with the news of Mirzella's death, Elaria and Tienna commit treason and kill Doran. On this the plot line of the Dormish prince can be considered complete.

The narrative line of Doran in the book

The book storyline of Doran Martella in "The Game of Thrones" (the book) is more complicated. Differences between the series and the book begin to appear after the murder of Oberin in the capital. In the book, the prince builds far-reaching plans related to the restoration of the Targarien dynasty.

First Doran Martell wanted to marry his daughter Arianna for Wieseris Targarien. But having learned that Viseris was killed by the Khal, the prince changes his plan and sends Quentin's son to the sea to make an offer to Deeneris Targarien.

The Sand Snakes (Obrina's illegitimate daughters), dissatisfied with Doran's policy, begin to plot insidious plans against him. Arianna arranges the abduction of Mirzella, turning into failure: Arianna is taken into custody, and Mircella during the fight loses her ear. Also, a knight from the Royal Harbor is killed, guarding her. Doran Martell realizes that his caution causes discontent from the Sand Snakes and the common people, that's why he opens a part of his plans to the daughters of Oberin and concludes an alliance with them.

Quentin Martell, arriving in Mierin, receives a refusal from the Daeneris. After the last of the Targariens flies to Drohony, Martell's son and his companions decide to release two dragons locked in one of the pyramids. Having failed, Quentin tragically dies from his wounds.

Wind of winter

Having received a letter from Connington, Doran Martell is much embarrassed when he learns of the unexpectedly risen prince Targarien. Doran decides to send his daughter Arianna and her companions to the Golden Swords, so she held talks and decided whether to start a war. At the farewell ceremony with Arianna Doran Martell, despite the severe pain in the joints, rose from the armchair and embraced her ...
