Do I need to clean the engine when replacing oil from synthetics to synthetics, semisynthetics, from mineral water to synthetics?

Regularly changing the oil in the machine is an important procedure for good motor performance and durability. Motorists often wonder whether it is necessary to flush the engine when replacing the oil? And if so, is it always and how often do it? Which methods are used, which one to choose better? Let's try to answer these questions.

Rinse or do not wash

When replacing the oil from the bottom of the motor, it merges, and is poured on top. At the same time, one does not have to be an expert to understand that when the oil is drained, some part still remains on the walls and in other parts of the engine, inevitably mixing with the newly poured oil. Therefore, probably, at first glance, if the question of whether to clean the engine when replacing the oil, the answer suggests a positive.

But is it so simple? Why are there so many disputes about this?

Experiment

In one of the online publications specializing in lubricants, they decided not to rely on the marketing moves of the companies, but to find out experimentally whether it is necessary to wash the engine when replacing the oil from the mineral water with semisynthetic, synthetics, with semisynthesis for synthetics and so on.

The experiment was as follows. The car was flooded with oil: after the mineral water, it was semisynthetic, after synthetic synthesis, synthetics, after synthetics, again synthetics and also in the reverse order. All possible variants of the transition from one type of oil to another have been tried. At the same time, two methods were used every time when replacing: with engine washing and without it. Each time they took a sample of used oil and compared the indicators where the motor was washed and where it was not washed.

By the results of the experiment it was found out that without washing the oil shows itself better in cases when the mineral water changes to semisynthetic, semisynthetic to synthetics and one kind of the same. Therefore, in the question of whether it is necessary to flush the engine when replacing the oil from semisynthetics to synthetics, it is possible to answer: no, it is not necessary. However, in reverse order, that is, when replacing from synthetics to semisynthetics and from semisynthetic to mineral water, the results showed that the oil deteriorates if the engine is not flushed.

Why do I need to clean the unit?

To understand this issue, you need to understand how the engine works in the engine oil. After all, it lubricates not only those parts that move, but also cleans them. All dirt is washed off from the walls and mixed with it, which causes the oil to become darker, and its viscosity increases.

It is clear that its composition includes detergent additives. However, after the dressing, they immediately begin the process of decomposition, and with increasing mileage their properties deteriorate. At the end, they simply can not solve their problems. Moreover, up to twenty percent of the oil remains in the hidden cavities when replacing. And it, as is known, contains dirt, which immediately mixes with the new one. That is why every replacement, even with good quality, leads to a deterioration in the operation of the unit, and the question of whether it is necessary to flush the engine when replacing the oil, the answer will be unambiguously positive.

But there are some clarifications.

When

Based on the above experiment, you can answer the question of whether to flush the engine when changing the oil. The answer depends on what kind of oil was and what will be poured.

It is clear that when replacing from mineral water to semisynthetic, from semisynthetics to synthetics and from synthetics to synthetics, replacement will not improve the performance. Therefore, in this case, it is quite possible to do without washing. In addition, if the machine is operated by one person, it may not be able to rinse every time. However, if in this way the replacement is made several times already, then the washing still needs to be done.

At the same time, there are situations when you need to change the oil:

  • When switching from synthetics to semisynthesis or mineral water or from semi-synthetic to mineral water, as well as oils of different viscosities;
  • When buying a used car, since it is not known what kind of oil is filled and how often the previous owner changed it;
  • At a constant operation, when a lot and quickly drive, lubrication, of course, also requires more;
  • After the engine overhaul;
  • If suspected of getting there debris or other substances;
  • On turbocharged engines that are particularly sensitive and require a clean and quality oil.

New machines

Drivers who bought a new car, especially reverent to him and try to comply with all the manufacturer's instructions and even more. Often think about whether to flush the engine when replacing the oil after running-in. In this case, there are no strict instructions for exploitation. If the vehicle was used properly, this procedure is not necessary. At the same time, you should consider what kind of oil is filled and what is planned to be poured.

Now the question, for example, whether you need to clean the engine when replacing the oil from synthetics to synthetics, you can give the right answer. But there is another question - how to clean the motor correctly.

Ways

There are several ways to flush the engine, most of which, if you think about it, do not perform their function. Briefly consider them.

  1. The rinsing oil will make the rest of the mud not as concentrated as before. However, the deposits will not be dissolved and, moreover, washed away.

  2. The vacuum pump is used in the so-called express replacement. Moreover, they say that the used oil will be deflated by 100%, but this is impossible for the simple reason that it will not be possible to reach the hidden cavities in any case.

  3. Quick rinsing "five-minute" is poured only for a few minutes, the motor is turned on and then drained off. Such washes, except for uselessness, are also dangerous. As a result, the deposits not only do not dissolve, but also clog the channels, because of which the engine receives less lubrication in some parts. In a car repair service, of course, they can object and say that if you use the most effective means, they will cope with their task. Maybe this is so, but at what cost? The fact is that so concentrated chemistry can, together with the dissolution of deposits, damage and corrode the crankshaft oil seals from rubber. Because of this, leakage will occur and the oil seals will have to be changed, which is not easy.

  4. But if so many ways are useless, is it necessary to wash the engine when changing the oil to VAZ 2107, "Opel", "Skoda", "BMW" or any other car in general?

    Sometimes offer a long way to rinse as the most effective. It will take a little more time to spend, it consists in the fact that a liquid is poured into the engine, from which it travels from fifty to five hundred kilometers, after which a replacement is made. During this time, mud and sediments have time to disintegrate and dissolve, without harming the power unit. Manufacturers provide for this special combination compounds, which, they said, are able not only to wash the inside of the motor, but even to some extent restore the structure of parts rubbing against each other.

Five-minute and long-running fluids: what's really going on

For those who are in a hurry, in the car service they can offer a liquid for quick washing. For "caring" about their vehicle - a combination to go a little on it, and then replace it with oil. But how will they behave in reality?

On packages, it is usually written that such products are safe for stuffing boxes and seals. However, if we reason with reason, then this is not possible, since washing involves an aggressive environment to cope with the deposits. Therefore, at least small caps are seriously injured due to them.

You can also find the mark "for all types of oils," which is also incredible, given that about fifteen percent of the oil of each manufacturer has its own unique composition. Therefore, the same effect on all of them simply does not work.

The promise that the mobility of the piston rings will be restored by the fluid, does not stand up to any criticism. The only thing that is possible in this case is the spraying of the worn out mechanism. But how realistic is it to restore metal? The question, of course, is rhetorical.

The result: how to be?

Asking about the question of whether to clean the engine when replacing the mineral oil with synthetic fiber or other specific situations, several things should be taken into account and only after that it should be concluded. However, if you decide to make a washing, then you need to do this not by any special means and devices, but only with engine oil.

There is it as follows:

  • Oil is drained and the oil filter is changing;

  • A new oil is poured in, a filter is inserted and the car drives a couple of days at low revs;

  • The oil is again merged and a new one is poured in, and the next change is made not after ten thousand kilometers, but after seven.

It is in this way that the life of the engine will be extended and questions like that, whether it is necessary to wash the engine when replacing the oil from synthetics to synthetics and other types, will disappear by themselves.
