Discharge with blood (cause of occurrence)

Virtually all, even absolutely healthy women, even once in their lives there were discharge with blood. What is the reason for this phenomenon and how should we proceed in this case? Blood vaginal discharge is a fairly common problem that many women face. The appearance of such secretions usually immediately scares the woman and forces him to seek advice from a specialist.

Prenatal secretions can appear before menstruation and often pass into the usual characteristic discharge during menstruation. They can also continue for several days after the end of menstruation. In this case, do not worry much, because this phenomenon is observed in many quite healthy women. Allocations with blood are also characteristic for women who have an intrauterine device. This phenomenon should also not cause serious concern. Often the bloody discharge has a brownish hue (the so-called "smearing"), the occurrence of which is associated with the process of oxidation and decomposition of blood inside the vagina. Usually peri-menstrual normal discharge practically does not have an unpleasant odor.

Sometimes minor bleeding can be observed in the middle of the cycle (the so-called "bleeding during ovulation") or in women taking various oral contraceptives. In the second case, this phenomenon often occurs: with a smaller dose of the hormone estrogen, more abundant secretions are observed. In the case when discharge with blood occurs when taking hormonal contraceptives or during the period of wearing a spiral, it is necessary to consult your gynecologist.

Other cases of vaginal discharge, which are absolutely not related to the menstrual cycle, almost always indicate that a woman has developed some kind of disease. Often they are observed during the occurrence of erosion or the subsequent cervical cancer. In this case, the discharge often intensifies after the sexual intercourse. At the same time during sexual intercourse there are quite unpleasant painful sensations.

Abundant discharge with blood (sudden and single) are often caused by spontaneous miscarriages in the first trimester of pregnancy. Very strong and prolonged discharge occurs with ectopic pregnancy. If the appearance of these secretions in a woman occurs when determining the various signs of pregnancy, it is necessary to urgently turn to the gynecologist. An urgent examination is also necessary when they appear during late pregnancy, as they may indicate the onset of premature birth. Slight brownish discharge during pregnancy sometimes indicates a slight bleeding from the blood vessels of the cervix. And in this case it is necessary to conduct an examination and get advice from the attending physician.

Often, this type of discharge indicates the occurrence of various gynecological diseases such as acute and chronic adnexitis, endometriosis, polyposis, chronic inflammation of the uterus (endometritis), nonspecific vaginitis (colpitis), and a number of other diseases. In most of the above cases, bloody discharge has an unpleasant, purulent smell. If they arise and are confident that they have nothing to do with the menstrual cycle or pregnancy, a full examination with a specialist will be required, since only by taking measures to cure the underlying disease will this symptom be eliminated. Self-medication in the form of douching or taking anti-inflammatory pills without proper medical advice can lead to serious complications.
