Cupid is ... Who is Cupid, and why do we need Cupid's arrows

Everything in our life does not make much sense if the event is not accompanied by good emotions. Man is so arranged that he can rejoice, laugh, and most importantly, experience a feeling of love.

Something inside

We sometimes can not explain what exactly is happening to us, but the soul as if sings, and in the belly "butterflies fly." This feeling is usually called falling in love or saying: "Cupids' arrows hit me". We are so accustomed to such an expression that we never even think about where it came from, and what value it was originally invested in. Let's dig a little history with you together ...

Ancient mythology

In ancient times, as is known, people worshiped the gods, who were endowed with super-power and incredible power. The gods were sacrificed and sought their location. From the very childhood, people were brought up with a feeling of deep reverence and admiration for the gods, because if they were angry, then their disgrace would fall upon the person. In any case, it was believed in ancient times. With special tenderness, the girls treated Aphrodite, the beauty goddess, because she was the personification of all the beautiful things on Earth, and it depended on her when old age would come and her face would be covered with wrinkles. But the Cupid, Eros, or, as it was called by the ancient Romans, Cupid is a deity, in the power of which there were love feelings of a person, ensuring the prolongation of life on Earth.

The Myth of Love

There is a touching and tender love story between the earthly girl Psyche and the god Cupid, who formed the basis of the legend. Venus was the mother of Cupid, and once sent him to punish Psyche only because she did not like her unearthly beauty. Instead, Cupid fell in love with a beauty and became her husband. However, according to legend, people could not look at the gods, so Psyche had no idea what her lover looked like. Cupid - it was a beloved, which you can only dream of, a real embodiment of love and tenderness, and the girl was absolutely happy. But the sisters had told her to follow her husband and look at him. This greatly angered Cupid, he left Psyche and punished for disobedience: after him disappeared their magical gardens, the wonderful castle and everything that they had before.

The girl was left alone and wept bitterly for her beloved. Tormented by loneliness, she decided on a desperate act and went to the temple of Venus. By begging for help from Cupid's mother, she agreed to the tasks that she had prepared for her. Venus, who did not like Psyche, decided in this way to get rid of the girl and destroy her, so she came up with impossible tasks that were harder than the other. However, nothing could break the girl in love, for her beloved, she successfully overcame all the difficulties and intrigues that the insidious Venus had prepared for her. The last task that Psyche was supposed to perform is to take Pandora, who kept the beauty of Pluto's wife, to the underworld. As it should be on such a journey, a desperate girl waited for various difficulties, but she should not under any circumstances open the coveted parcel. Unfortunately, caution was lost in curiosity, and Psyche peeked into the box. Sly Venus foresaw this and hid there a dead dream that struck the girl.

Cupid in love (he was a desperate and resolute youth) found his beloved, who was lying on the ground, took off her charms and the action of a dead dream, because love was stronger, and he forgave her. The gods were delighted with the love of Psyche and, as a reward, made her a goddess.

Cupid in our time

To date, everyone knows that Cupid is the god of love. We, of course, do not honor him, as the inhabitants of Greece did in ancient times, and do not bring him victims, but it is with him that we associate romantic encounters, meetings, first sympathy. We assume that Cupid's arrows hit the heart when we joke about falling in love. It is believed that this god of love is always in the hands of a bow and arrows, which he shoots in the heart, so that a person is visited by love.

The image of Cupid

Most often Cupid is presented in the form of a nice blond boy with wings, such a wonderful angel. This mischievous little boy flies between people and looks out for those who need to hit the arrows of love. In sculpture and painting, a favorite character and a vivid example, which personifies the brightest human feelings, it was Cupid. Cupid was depicted with a smile on his face, in white and gold colors, and in his hands he had a "weapon of love" - a bow and arrows.

Cupid's Bow

The association of this character with the most tender and touching feelings has become so densely integrated into our life that in the most diverse areas one can find the names associated in one way or another with this deity. Well, for example, women's lips, whose shape has clear boundaries and resembles the letter "M", were called "Cupid's bow". Interviewed by sociologists, the men said that they consider such women incredibly sexy, and this form of their upper lip makes them very exciting. Indeed, clearly delineated female lips - it's very beautiful, and many women look with envy at the lucky owners of such a sensual mouth.

Valentine's Day

And although there is no Valentine's Day among the holidays that have long been present in our calendar, in recent years this date has become increasingly popular. The young people enthusiastically accepted the idea of celebrating the Day of all lovers, and now every year on February 14 through the streets of any city couples are wandering, and happy girls are walking with bouquets of flowers. In shops there are different flashing and singing "I love you" red hearts, all kinds of souvenirs and romantic scented candles, and an endless variety of various attributes for the holiday. Not to mention the fact that on this day sellers of champagne, chocolates and flowers sell an incredible amount of their goods.

Agree, Cupid's day is an extra reason to give a sign of attention to your beloved and remind her of your feelings. There is nothing wrong with the fact that another holiday has appeared in our calendar, which, though not a red day of the calendar, has become a real celebration, and lovers spend it happily.
