Competent planting gladioli

Gladiolus - beautiful flowering plants from the family of iris. They are photophilic, soils prefer moderately moist, breathable. Blossom from July to October, depending on the variety. In height, they are divided into medium-sized (from 50 to 100 cm) and tall (more than 100 cm).

To get a luxurious gladiolus, planting it should be correct. These plants are not the most difficult to grow. But the need to dig up bulbs every fall, disinfect, dry and store until the next spring for lazy people discourages the desire to cultivate them. However, once grown beautiful gladiolus, there is a need to acquire bulbs of new varieties to admire their flowering.

A competent planting of gladioli includes the preparation of bulbs for planting. This stage is very important. From the storehouse of corms you need to get 25 days before planting, bring them into a heated room, where the temperature is 20-25 0 C. It is necessary that the humidity of the air was small, so as not to provoke a strong growth of the roots.

As a rule, at the end of winter the gladioli end a period of rest and the bulbs begin to germinate under any conditions. As soon as sprouts appear, corms should provide sufficient scattered lighting. They need to be cleaned from covering scales, especially children.

If the planting of gladiolus should be done by a small number of bulbs (or this is a particularly valuable variety), and they have foci of rotting damage, then you can try to save them. With a sharp knife, treated with alcohol or fire, it is necessary to cut out the decayed area, picking up healthy tissues. Places of cut necessarily something to grease, for example, zelenok. At this point, within a week, a crocked layer of tissue is formed, which will prevent infection, i. E. For the next 7 days, such bulbs can not be planted.

If the planting material is stored in the refrigerator, then it needs a thermal treatment, such as warming in warm water at 25-30 0 C. This will give corms a good stimulus, accelerate their further development and flowering.

Planting gladiolus is carried out after disinfection from fungal spores and thrips. To do this, use special preparations or infusions on phytoncidal plants. Of the drugs, you can use 0,3% base or phytosporin. The bulbs are placed in the prepared solution for 40 minutes. From thrips you can cook a hood: from 100 g of garlic pressed juice, diluted in 1 liter of water. In such a solution, bulbs are placed for 3 hours.

The best gladioli grow on specially prepared ridges, where from the fall digging, sand or sawdust was introduced to digging. The planting scheme depends on the size of the bulbs and the growth targets. The rows are marked 30 cm apart, the distance in a row between the bulbs is about 10 cm. The depth of the groove for large specimens is from 10 to 15 cm. The bulbs are located downwards, they can not be pushed into the soil. For tall varieties, it is advisable to immediately install supports for tying. Purified children are planted according to the scheme 3x3 or 4x4 cm by analogy with onion sowing. The depth of the seal is small - about 3 cm. If the ground is moist, then water it is not necessary: so it will remain more friable. After you have placed gladioli in the soil, the planting should be sprinkled with sand.

If a small number of bulbs of different sizes are planted, they are conveniently located in the wells. In one excavated hole, you can put 3-4 medium bulbs at the maximum depth, a few shallow - less deeply, a few children - closer to the surface. Such a planting of gladiolus does not require support: it is enough to tie the plants in a bouquet.
