Clipboard

The clipboard is some area of the computer operating system memory that is reserved for storing temporary information.

You have probably moved or copied something on your computer (folders, text, pictures, other files). Did you think about where the files are placed after the move / copy action was taken? That's right, they are uploaded to the clipboard. It remembers the information that you copied and gives it away when you click the Paste command.

Some applications have their own buffer, available only within the framework of this program.

Disadvantages of the clipboard

The main negative point is that it is capable of storing only one block of information. Hence, after copying the next data, the old ones will be replaced with new ones.

But it is possible that in one text document you need to copy twenty fragments into another document. In this case, you have to do the same actions twenty times.

It will undoubtedly be more convenient if you first copy all the necessary fragments to the buffer, and then use them once in a new document.

By default, this function can not perform such actions. To implement this task, specially developed applications are used, also called clipboard managers.

There are many utilities that allow you to restore data from the buffer. For example, an application such as Ditto Clipboard Manager. It is Russian-speaking and free of charge. The program allows you to restore information from the clipboard. It is displayed in the system tray of the operating system.

All the text and graphics written to the clipboard, the utility captures in the log. There can be many such passages. If necessary, each of them can be added to the document by selecting it from the list. The utility has a large selection of other settings, which even a novice can easily handle.

This program will be of great help if you use the clipboard often.

Other utilities:

  • Clipomatic - the program is very convenient for working with the buffer, but only memorizes text fragments.
  • CLCL is a simple utility that has many useful functions. Allows you to save hotkeys, install plug-ins, configure the information storage filter.
  • ClipX is an application very similar to CLCL.
  • Clipboard Keeper is a good free program.

Where can I find the Windows clipboard?

If you want to see the contents of your clipboard, you can do it by opening a file called clipbrd.exe. It is located in the system directory C: / WINDOWS, and then in system32. This file is viewable (it can not be deleted) only to Windows XP owners. In the "Seven" and "Vista" it is replaced with the file clip.exe, the contents of which can not be viewed.

Clearing the clipboard (except Windows XP)

To delete content on Windows 7 and Vista operating systems, follow these instructions:

- Create a shortcut file. To do this, you need to right-click on the empty desktop space with the right mouse button, highlight the item "Create", then "Label".

- In the appeared window in the field where the path to the object should be located, enter the command that clears the buffer: cmd / c echo off | Clip.

- Click "Next".

- Name the label and click OK.

As a result, a label of a dark color appears on the desktop of your personal computer. If you need to clear the clipboard, double-click it.

Clipboard Errors

Working with MS Office, you may encounter a fairly common error. When copying / pasting a window appears with the words "Error cleaning the clipboard." The reason for this can be the installation on your computer of the Punto Switcher application, which switches the keyboard layout between the two languages in automatic mode. Exiting this program does not guarantee the error disappears, but it still costs to try.

This problem can also occur due to the Download Master application . In the program settings, you need to disable the function "Monitor URL in the buffer".
