Calcium hypochlorite is a powder that has a color from white to light brown. This substance is non-flammable, but may cause oxidation and fire from contact with oils or dust-like products.

It is used as a disinfectant if it is necessary to disinfect clothes, utensils, patient discharge, cleaning equipment and other equipment. Calcium hypochlorite is also used to disinfect water in the pool, drinking and wastewater. In industry, it is used for bleaching cellulose and fabrics.

The solution of this drug acts on bacteria of tuberculosis, as well as on pathogens of cholera, plague, it has not only bactericidal, but also fungicidal, sporicidal and virucidal action.

If calcium hypochlorite is stored in barrels, the shelf life is 3 years, and if in polyethylene bags, then only twelve months. After the solution has been prepared, it retains its quality for 14 days and should be kept in a dark container with a tight lid.

Keep this product away from direct sunlight and acid fumes, the room should be dry, unheated and well ventilated.

The use of "Calcium hypochlorite"

These solutions are used in place of bleach and DTSGK if necessary to disinfect various discharges and objects in places of infectious diseases, as well as in case of necessity of disinfection of certain objects. The process can be carried out in different ways, it can be irrigation, and wiping objects with a rag, and soaking them, most importantly, so that their condition does not deteriorate with the chosen treatment method.

The specified substance is used in such cases:

- if it is necessary to disinfect wooden furniture or a room, their irrigation is carried out. Dosage is 1% active chlorine for 300-500 ml / square. M and left for an hour, after which it is necessary to ventilate everything well;

- if it is necessary to disinfect rags or other material used during harvesting, it is simply soaked in a given solution and also kept for one hour;

- to disinfect the dishes for one hour, immerse it in a solution of 0.25% -1% by active chlorine. One set of dishes should be about 1.5 liters of solution and after that everything is thoroughly washed with water, best flowing;

- all sanitary and technical equipment, including toilet bowls and bathtubs, must be sprinkled twice with 1% disinfectant solution;

- in order to decontaminate the remains of food or liquid secretions, they must be poured with a solution of 1: 1 and allow it to stand for a while, after which it must be removed, nightware after that should also be well rinsed with water;

- If it is necessary to disinfect the soil or asphalt, they are watered with a 1% solution in approximately 1.5 liters per square meter.

The first hypochlorite, which was used in industrial production, is potassium hypochlorite, it is in the "zhaveleva water" and was used for bleaching tissues and cellulose since the XVIII.

Precautions when working with "Calcium hypochlorite"

When performing such work, it is mandatory to use protective glasses, a respirator, a protective apron and rubber gloves. Without the availability of personal protective equipment, it is strictly prohibited to carry out any work with this solution.

If this substance was allowed to enter the skin or mucous membranes, then these places should be rinsed immediately with a copious amount of running water.
