Basic principles of international law

The renewed international order, affirmed by the UN Charter, allowed the development of certain rules of conduct between states and peoples. They are the basic principles of international law. They have an obligatory character for those subjects who have accepted them at the state level. Moreover, it is worth noting that, although their existence is recognized mainly through ratification by the competent body of the state, the basic principles of international law also extend to intergovernmental organizations, nations struggling for self-determination, and state formations.

For this period of time, there are 10 basic rules, which are the principles aimed at regulating the three main problems of international public relations.

Basic principles of international law governing the equality of subjects

The first and basic basic rule in this group is the " Principle of the sovereign equality of states ". Its essence lies in the fact that any country recognized at the international level has all the power in its own territory and has an absolute representation of its interests in international relations.

The principle of respect for natural human rights is also included in this group of rights. As it was mentioned, it was the II World War and its consequences that compelled the world community to consolidate the sacredness of any human life and its inviolability. And taking into account the fact that a person is the unit on which any state is based, the establishment of the necessary minimum of its rights and their observance should become part of the basis of international law.

The principles of cooperation and conscientious fulfillment of international obligations are aimed at the interaction of subjects of international law in the resolution of specific problems. At the same time, cooperation is based on the recognition of the sovereignty of states, their powers in a strictly specified territory.

The universally recognized principles of international law that determine independence

The basic rule of this group is the principle of non-interference in the state's own affairs . Its acceptance by the subjects of the industry in question means that any actions taken by the authorities of a particular country can not be the subject of interest of other states. From this principle there is an exception. It is based on the fact that if the situation developing on the territory of the country is recognized by the UN Security Council as dangerous, then in this case different sanctions may be applied against it, not excluding the introduction of peacekeeping troops.

The right to self-determination of peoples and nations is also a reflection of the equality of subjects. This principle is aimed at free changing the political status of any community of people recognized by the nation.

The universally recognized principles of international law related to the preservation of peace .

With the end of World War II, it became vital for most states to establish rules for the use of force or a threat to be considered a crime at the international level. Therefore, the foundations of international law, dictated by the UN Charter, contain the principle of non-acceptance of the use of force or the possibility of its use to achieve a certain result in relations between countries.

The same principle applies to the principle of peaceful settlement of conflicts that arise among intergovernmental organizations and states . The essence of it is to prevent and eliminate the possible consequences of a mismatch of interests through negotiation in both bilateral format and with the involvement of intermediaries.

The principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders also reflect the positions of the United Nations and the international community with regard to the preservation of peace. In case of violation of these provisions, international forces have the right to impose sanctions against the state that allowed them, but only until the establishment of the old order.

The presented basic principles of international law are designed to ensure the achievement of the only goal for which this industry was created - ensuring peace and cooperation among states. Consequently, their acceptance and adherence to them by subjects is universally binding.
