A little about the plot

This is a story about the witcher Geralt of Rivia, who was raised this way from childhood through various artificial mutations and potions. These mutagens increase strength and endurance, improve reaction speed and regeneration, and also make them immune to diseases and poisons. Witches create, that they pursue and kill monsters attacking people. It's Geralt's job to kill monsters for money. So it was until he found the little Cyril, his Destiny, the only heiress of the destroyed state of Cintra. She is an important figure in the political game between the northern kingdoms and the powerful empires of Nilfgaard. Geralt and his lover, the enchantress of Yenifer, now must protect the little Ciri, and thus the witcher is firmly entangled in political intrigues, the center of the opposition of states. The main character is to demolish the enemies of the head, protect the girl and understand the intricate relationship with Jennifer.

Saga "The Witcher": books in order, the first collections

The series begins in 1986, when the collection of short stories The Witcher comes out, which was reissued in 1993 under the title The Last Want. They differ in that later the story-interlude "The voice of reason" was added, which is divided into parts, preceded by each of the remaining stories. In the collection consisting of seven works, some beat famous fairy tales, such as "Snow White" and "Sleeping Beauty". There is also a key story about the Destination "The Question of Price", as well as "The Edge of the World", where Geralt meets his future best friend - troubadour Lyutik. In 1992, another collection of short stories, The Sword of Destiny, was published, which described the adventures of the witcher with Lyutik and Jennifer. It is here, in the story "Sword of Purpose", Geralt meets Tsiri. Total collection includes six works.

The beginning of a great adventure

Then the whole novels "The Witcher" begin to be published, the series of books continues with the product "The Blood of the Elves", in which the Empire of Nilfgaard seizes the kingdom of Cintra. The monster hunter sends Ciri to the hideout, to the citadel of the witches, where she finds magical abilities. The girl is entrusted to the sorceress, so that she learns to control her abilities. The following year (1995) saw the light of "The Hour of Contempt". The adventure continues, and Jennifer, along with Cyril, go to the Arcane Collection. The witch wants to send a young princess to study in a magical school. The Witcher follows them, simultaneously spreading the rumor that Tsiri is no longer alive. However, there is a riot among wizards, which marks the beginning of a new round of war. Jennifer is in captivity. Geralt miraculously survived, but was far away, and Ciri, using the old portal, was sent to the desert where she was saved from the death of a unicorn, with whom she eventually became friends. When she tried to get out of there, she was grabbed by the Nilfgaards. Having fought off and escaped from them, Tsiri changes his name and joins the Rats, a gang of robbers.

The story continues

In the cycle "The Witcher" books were issued in order every year. The next, fifth part of the saga became the novel "The Baptism of Fire." Geralt after heavy wounds during the mutiny rose to his feet under the watchful eye of the Dryads and went in search of the Cyril. On the way, he meets his friend Lyutik. They are joined by a archer, a knight and a vampire. With these fellow travelers friends get acquainted in the process of their searches and dangerous adventures. Meanwhile, Falk (the new name of the princess in the gang) robbed along with the Rats, plunging the Borderlands into terror. Rumors about the gang spread quickly, and now the coroner Nilfgaard sends the best bounty hunter to destroy the bandits. Jennifer managed to get out of captivity, and she too begins to look for Ciri.

In 1997, the continuation of Andrzej Sapkowski's book about the witcher, entitled The Tower of the Swallow, was published. Jennifer during the search for the heiress of Zintra herself is in trouble. Herald with the company stubbornly follows the goal, but it is still far away. After all the fights and torments, hiding from the pursuers and enemies, Ciri remains alone. She has to get to the magic Tower of the Swallow.

In the next novel, "Lady of the Lake", it turns out that the Tower is a portal to another world where not the most friendly creatures live. Returning to her world, Cyril tried to save Jennifer, but she fell into the trap of Wilhelgez, the evil nilgaard magician who dreamed of getting a girl from her very birth. It was necessary for him, since it is in her that she has the opportunity to rule the world. At this time, Geralt finds out where Wilgefort is hiding, and in a fierce battle overcomes an evil sorcerer. The question is - at what price !?

History without beginning and end

Years later, in 2013, a new saga novel was released, which was written by Andrzej Sapkowski. "The Witcher" received the so-called prequel "Season of Thunderstorms". Rather, the action takes place after the events of the story "The Witcher" and before "The Last Desire". Prior to this, in the cycle "The Witcher" books in order came out in chronological order. Here the plot consists of several parallel stories, which eventually converge into a single whole. The novel describes the whole month of the life of the young Geralt, his bloody fights with monsters, incredible adventures and stormy adventures. And all this against the background of royal and magical intrigues, as well as confrontation of people and nonhumans: elves, krasnolyudov and others.
