For this, the youth dressed in rags and became a fool. He asked for charity, which he then gave to the poor, suffered beatings, ridicule, mockery.

The Kazan Martyrs

Immediately after the feast of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary on October 15, the day of the memory of the Kazan martyrs of Boris, Vasily, Dimitri, Jacob, John, Michael, Peter, Silvan, Stephen, Theodore is celebrated.

The information about their life has remained a little. It is only known that the Orthodox Slavs and Tatars in Kazan became martyrs at the hands of the Hagar. There remained records that they accepted their suffering and death in 1552-1553.

More information is available on the life of the three Kazan martyrs: John, Stefan and Peter. All of them took a martyr's death for their faith in Jesus Christ.

John was slaughtered by swords for not wanting to worship Mohammed. But the Lord spared him, and all believers soon learned of the sufferings of the martyr. With mortal wounds, he was able to reach the Russians living in Kazan. John prayed the whole night, and on the morning of January 24, having communicated, he surrendered to the Lord.

Peter and Stephen were Tatars living in Kazan. At one time, they abandoned Islam and turned to the Orthodox faith. Stefan, who suffered from more than twenty years of relaxation of his legs, was healed after his baptism. But as soon as the Russian troops left Kazan, the Tatars chopped the martyr into pieces, dispersed his body, and the house was plundered. Petra was beaten to death by his relatives after they learned that he had converted to the Orthodox faith.

All the martyrs are remembered by the church on October 15. The names of Peter and Stephen are on March 24th. The feast of the martyr John is also on 24 January.
