Submersible Well Pumps: Features

Submersible well pumps are devices that fall below the level of liquid being pumped. In this way, it is possible to provide a liquid lift from a sufficiently large depth, a qualitative cooling of all components of the device, and also allows the liquid to be lifted with the gases dissolved in it. Submersible well pumps are installed in shaft wells, boreholes, technological tanks.

It is accepted to distinguish two types of devices from this category: rod and rodless. The first type assumes the implementation of the drive from an independent engine located on the surface of the liquid by means of a mechanical link, and the second type is that the device is made in one unit with an electric or hydraulic motor .

When it comes to the use of an electric motor, it is powered by a power cable immersed with the pump mechanism. Such submersible downhole pumps are currently the most common.

In the case of a hydraulic motor, the pumped water supplied to the interior of the device under high pressure is used as an energy source. The independent motor with the pump in this case is installed on the surface.

In the event that the water lies below the level of eight meters or does not suit the quality of it at this level, it makes sense to use submersible well pumps. If we compare them with pumping stations, then it is much easier to install and connect them. However, the cost of such mechanisms sometimes exceeds the cost of pumping stations, which is due to the fact that with a small own diameter, these devices must provide a higher head. To solve such a difficult technical task, designers have to use other solutions, creating a multi-stage suction system, which is the reason for the rise in price of the device.

A well pump has a number of differences from a well pump. He, for example, has an internal cooling jacket for the engine. This allows you to place such a pump in a well or a large diameter well. This type of device also has the shape of a cylinder, but their diameter is larger, so they effectively use the engine's capabilities. A distinctive feature of well mechanisms is their high productivity and lower cost with similar power consumption and head rates as for well models. Industrial submersible pumps differ from these two types only by their purpose and throughput. In the borehole device, the engine is cooled by the flow of water lifted upward. This is why when using this type of equipment it is necessary to take into account the diameter of the well, which in no case can exceed the diameter of the device itself.

Submersible electric pumps, like pumping stations, should not run idle. And this can happen if the source of water in the source is below the critical mark, from which the suction pipe can be higher than it. As a result, the pump breaks down. It can be protected by equipping with the necessary sensors.
