Who was the first inventor of the radio?

A.S. Popov is the inventor of radio, which our country can rightfully be proud of. He was the first to study electromagnetic waves, and even was a teacher of relevant courses for officers. It was Popov who found practical application of the electrowaves discovered by Hertz. The scientist began his first experiments with the repetition of the experiments of the famous pioneer. But over time Popov invented his own, more sensitive and reliable way of recording electromagnetic waves. The device he invented for these purposes was called a "coherer", and looked like a glass tube filled with metal shavings. Inside it there were two electrodes. The interaction of the electricity and metal they created comprised the whole principle of the operation of the invention. True, to enhance the effect, we had to periodically shake the tube so that the sawdust would not weld together. To permanently not produce this process manually, A.S. Popov began to use the bell ringer. Subsequently, there was a need to strengthen the action of the coherer. The scientist grounded one of the electrodes, and the second one was picked up and attached to a wire fragment. So the first antenna for wireless reception was invented. The current electrical appliances are reminiscent of the invention of the scientist, but the principle of their action has not changed since then. Except for the method of managing energy sources: now semiconductor devices are used for such purposes .

Few people know that the famous inventor of radio Popov is considered a pioneer only with us. In America, for example, another name is called G. Marconi. The latter did appear as a father for radio, but in a commercial sense. He was the first to set up the production of radio receivers and captured most of the market, while our domestic scientist worked more carefully and did not hurry to bring the "raw" invention into circulation for general use. Obviously, Popov, unlike an enterprising colleague, pursued not personal business goals. The scientist wanted to make radio accessible, put his invention to the service of all mankind. Disputes on the subject of the primacy of inventors have not ceased for more than a century. Although, in fact, it would be fair to consider the real trailblazer in this field of Henry Hertz, who discovered electromagnetic waves and the way of their transmission to a distance.

The inventor of the radio officially became one in 1895. As for the date, two numbers are called here. It would be more correct to say that a significant event occurred on May 7th according to a new style. Moreover, it is this number that many textbooks and encyclopedias are called. On this day our inventor of the radio first showed his offspring to fellow scientists at a meeting in St. Petersburg. Then the first public transmission of the signal was made, a distance of 60 meters. Since then, the seventh of May is annually celebrated in Russia as Radio Day, a holiday for all who work in the communications industries.

Popov is the inventor of radio, whose works were based on military engineers. Those people who, first of all, appreciated not the speed in achieving the results, but the quality and reliability of the final invention. Signaling in the military industry has always been an important and to some extent a priority, which further increased the value of our scientist's work. Initially, however, the range of the signal left much to be desired. But A.S. Popov constantly worked on this, improving his invention. The first long-distance radio transmission could overcome the threshold of 250 meters. Soon, after persistent manipulations, the scientist achieved even greater success - 600 meters. During the maneuvers conducted by the Black Sea Fleet, the scientist again conducted an experiment for the public. The results for that time were stunning - 20 km. This demonstration was held in 1899. And two years later Popov was able to bring his invention to the range of transmission of radio signals of 150 km. It was found out that it is possible to receive the signal by telephone. Around this time, thanks to the work of the scientist, fishermen were found who were lost on the ice in the Gulf of Finland. So, with the salvation of people, the practical work of Popov's remarkable invention began. Soon the introduction of radio communication equipment in all spheres of life, including for military purposes - for the Russian Navy and Army.
