Who is a Jedi? The Jedi is ...

"May force be with you" - this phrase is known not only by the avid fans of "Star Wars". Cult cosmic epic is known all over the world. And with the release of its very first part, millions of children around the world dreamed of one thing - becoming a Jedi.

Origin of the word

He was invented by the saga director George Lucas. As he said, for a basis he took the name of a genre of a cinema of Japan "дзидайгэки". This is a historical drama, in the center of the story is the life and becoming of a samurai. The creator of the "Star Wars" highly appreciates the Japanese culture, and the image of the samurai, perhaps, was taken as the basis of his character. Who is a Jedi?

Knights-peacemakers - warriors of Light

The Jedi is one of the key characters in the space epic Star Wars. He is a defender of the Republic during armed conflicts with hostile forces. The Jedi always try to act exclusively peacefully, therefore they are also called peacemaker knights.

The Jedi are not a supernatural being. They could become any humanoid who has the ability to control the Force. What she is, in the star epic is shown in passing. In one of the episodes it is told that all living things in the Universe are connected with certain microscopic beings that allow us to control living and non-living matter. Those who have a lot of blood in their blood, and can become Jedi. According to another version, the Force is an integral part of all living things in the Universe.

Children with the Force were found and transferred to the upbringing and training of the Jedi Order. If they passed through the whole development path to the end and successfully survived the five trials, they were given the title of knights. In rare cases, the Jedi became a knight without passing tests - for the performance of an exceptional heroic deed.

Order of the Knights of the Force

Millennia ago, the Jedi Order was established, which stood guard over the tranquility of the Galactic Republic. His homeland was the planet Tython. Initially, he studied the nature of the Force, but over time, began to take an increasingly active part in the affairs of the Galaxy. It is believed that the order does not have a leader and is administered by the Jedi Council. However, formally exists the title of master, the supreme ruler of the Jedi. In "Star wars" masters Yoda several times called the master, and this gives reason to assume that during the events taking place in the saga it was he who led the Jedi order.

The hierarchy of the Order is as follows:

  1. Yunlings - those who begin to take the first steps in training.
  2. Padawans are pupils of knights who successfully completed the first stage of training.
  3. The Jedi.
  4. Master - a Jedi, whose student successfully passed the latest tests and was awarded the title of knight.
  5. The Master is elected by the Council from among the best warriors. In "Star Wars" this is Yoda.

Jedi Code

Knights-peacekeepers have their own set of rules. First of all, it is needed to help the Padawans, young disciples, overcome the attraction of the dark side of the Force.

The Code contains only a few commandments: not to use one's skills for personal purposes, to act only in harmony with the Force, not to succumb to rage and anger that lead to the dark side and always try to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. The Jedi try to keep the peace to the last and only protect themselves. They can attack as a last resort, if this can be prevented by an even greater threat.

Jedi: wars with the Sith

The world, created by the brilliant director George Lucas, is huge. It contains thousands of diverse characters. Warriors of Light could not do without antagonists. In the space saga "Star Wars", the Jedi have their eternal and strong opponent - the Sith. Appearance they have a frightening and repulsive - under the influence of dark forces, the face of a man who has chosen the path of evil changes. The whites of the eyes turn yellow, and the pupils become "cat-like."

The Jedi, who chose the dark side of the Force, were expelled. They fled to the planet Korriban, mixed with the local warlike race of Red-skinned humanoids sensitive to the Force, and founded their Sith Order. Since then, they remain the main enemies of the Jedi.

Knight's weapons

In fact, the main weapon of the Jedi is himself. More precisely, his ability to control the Force. Thanks to her, he can move objects and keep them in the air. As for military weapons, it is invariably an indispensable attribute and a mark of distinction. This Jedi lightsaber is a blade whose blade represents pure energy.

It is used both in solemn ceremonies and in combat. Traditionally, a knight dedicated to make a Jedi sword with his own hands. Weapons differed by the material of the handle and the options of the blade. The color of the light beam could also be different - white, blue, blue, green and violet, depending on the crystal used in the sword.

"The Return of the Jedi" - the story of the "star" warrior

Knights-peacekeepers are found in the saga from the first part. But information about the Jedi is very meager. It is known that these warriors who use a certain Force stand on the side of good and try to maintain a balance in the universe between good and evil. But already in the third part of the epic, the film "The Return of the Jedi", the viewer will finally show how the training of knights is going on, and will acquaint with the legendary head of the Jedi Order, Master Yoda.

In this part of the saga it is convincingly shown that the matter is not in force and growth. The tiny grand master of the Order easily defeats Luke Skywalker, which is larger than his size.

The cult of knights-peacemakers

The influence of "Star Wars" is so strong that it led to the emergence not only of a huge number of fans of Lucas's creativity and ardent fans of the space saga, but also to the origin of a kind of religious teaching - Jediism. It is more appropriate to speak here not of a new religion, but of a subculture. Jedaism is an officially registered religious movement in the UK. Here the number of its members reaches almost 400 thousand people. Most of them are students of major universities of the country. There are also many adherents of this doctrine in Australia and New Zealand. In Russia, this movement is not so common, although gradually the circle of its members is growing. Who is a Jedi in accordance with the new religious teachings? Based on the same space star "Star Wars". In it, a Jedi is a knight who follows the path of Light and uses Power for noble purposes. As for the new religion, this definition is not entirely correct. Here the Jedi is more likely one who follows the path of spiritual and physical perfection, and it does not matter what combat skills he owns.

George Lucas is revered as a prophet in Jediism.

Jedi - created by the imagination of George Lucas knights-peacekeepers, adepts of the bright side of the Force, and today remain an example for imitation of the fans of the famous space epic.
