What is slang vocabulary and why does it arise? An example of jargon in modern life

Slang vocabulary in Russian has long been a common phenomenon. But many people, hearing this phrase, immediately think about criminal expressions that ordinary people do not immediately understand. But the example of jargon can also be found in everyday life. And such, by the way, much more.

What is slang vocabulary

Before considering the example of jargon, you need to understand what this terminology is. So, these are words that are used only in a certain social group of people. They can be united by one profession, specialty, interests, age, common views, etc. In other words, jargon in Russian is a completely separate speech that only certain people can understand. And, proceeding from the fact that there are so many social groups today, the jargon, accordingly, also flourishes.

Types of jargon

It should be noted that today an example of jargonism can be found in virtually any field of activity. They arise in almost any collective, which is moderately stable. For example, you can observe jargon in the speech of schoolchildren, students, military, musicians, athletes, alcoholics, criminals, etc. As you can see - the social "spread" is quite large. Needless to say, even the expressions of the intelligentsia can be called with complete confidence, and this will be correct. After all, their expressions are understandable only to them, and they were not formed from scratch. So everything is fair.

Popular words

Many people do not even know themselves that they use slang words. They are so firmly integrated into our lives that they have become quite normal and acceptable expressions and we pronounce them without thinking. Take as an example the speech of students or students. The word "fizra", "pair", "fizichka", "stikipah", "strains", "clear", "I do not understand", etc. - we hear this every day and understand what these expressions mean.

However, there are also words "stronger". It's about the jargon of people associated with the criminal sphere. Or, as it is also called, "thieves." Perhaps the most common word in this sphere is the "zone". It's exactly what everyone has heard. It means, as it was already possible to understand, a prison. By the way, it's fair to say that thieves and criminal jargon are the richest of all. It's really a separate language. "Fart" (luck), "Kent" (close friend), "Olive" (bullet), "Kipishnut" (to be indignant), "Zhigan" (desperate) - there are many such words. Do not go deep into their meaning - you can understand that the "language" is really complicated.

Emotionality

It should be noted that the jargon, the examples of words of which were considered above, differ in some features. Whatever sphere they belong to, they share one thing - a high level of expressiveness. Many jargon appeared due to the fact that it was necessary to come up with some kind of word, successfully describing this or that situation (or person). When there are no standard expressions that would convey the entire emotional degree of enthusiasm or disapproval. It should be as emotional as possible - this is the main characteristic of jargon. For example, the phrase "What a run?", Pronounced with the appropriate intonation, sounds much more serious than "What are you doing?". By the way, a rather vivid example of jargon.

This vocabulary is also much more volatile and mobile. Also jargon quickly die - they are replaced by other, new expressions. So, for example, the youth slang of the 60s practically disappeared - today young people talk quite differently.

Formation of jargon

So, for what reason such expressions appear - it is understandable, however how are they formed? In fact, it's very simple. The first way is through borrowing. So, for example, in our modern language came the word "men" (guy, man), "fan" (fan, worship), "people" (people, society), etc. As you can guess, the words listed are taken from English.

Still often they just take and rethink some popular word. For example, the word "buzz" - it means "drinking". Why this expression? Because it very successfully emphasizes the duration of this process.
Also there is another popular way, consisting in word formation. There is a word like "baldet" (having fun). Hence the slang "baldezh" (fun). And there are still many such examples.

The jargon was always and it will continue to exist. This vocabulary always interacts with the language of the whole people, "snatching" certain expressions from it and transforming them in its own way. The most important thing is to know the extent to which such words are used. Still, do not clog up your speech too often with such expressions. Otherwise, the purity of our mighty Russian language will have to be forgotten if everyone turns to jargon.
