Rayhon is basil (reagan, scented cornflowers). This is an annual plant from the genus Basil (Ocimum), which belongs to the family of cototrophic and subfamily cats (Lamiaceae).

Raykhon is an herb known to man since ancient times as an effective medicinal product that helps fight many ailments. Modern scientists on the basis of numerous studies have been able to confirm the presence of medicinal properties of this plant. This allowed the release of drugs on its basis and continue to use it in folk medicine.

Raykhon: description of the plant

In the photo posted in our article, you can see an annual half-shrub. Its height can vary from 40 to 90 cm. This plant has a characteristic pleasant, rather rich smell and a slightly chilling taste.

The root of the basil is spindle-shaped, pivotal, moderately branched. The calyx, stem and leaves are covered with tiny hairs. Among them are glands that contain essential oils.

The stem is branchy, erect, with well-developed raised, opposite, weakly tetrahedral branches. Leaves are rarely dentate or entire, not more than three centimeters long - short-petioled, oblong-ovate, opposite.

Raykhon is a grass with pink, white or purple tubular flowers of medium size, which are collected on the tops of stems in false whorls of 6-10 pieces or in a brush, the length of which can reach 35 cm.

Flowers are located on short, slightly bent down pedicels, bisexual. Calyx campanulate, not falling, ovoid. Corolla is sagging, tubular-campanulate, bilabial, about twice as long as calyx. His lip (lower lobe) is longer and bent downwards, the other four form an upper lip. Stamens four. They are inclined, the upper often have an appendage, which is a hair bundle. Pestle is the only one.

The fruit is dry, ripening, it breaks up into 4 nuts of an oval shape, placed in a cup. Nuts in length do not exceed 1.5 mm. They are glabrous, smooth, painted in brownish-black color, trihedral.

The flowering of the plant begins in July and lasts until September. In the southern regions of our country it can last until mid-November. From the second half of September until November, the fruits are ripening.

Distribution and reproduction

In natural conditions, rayon grows on the island of Madagascar, in north-eastern Africa, in the south of the Arabian Peninsula. In Russia, basil is grown in the North Caucasus and in the Voronezh region.

It is planted with seeds that are sown in greenhouses in the second half of March. Seedling usually grows in 40-45 days, and in the ground it is planted in May.

Composition

Grass rajhon, the benefits and harms of which have already been thoroughly studied, has a complex chemical composition. First of all, these are essential oils, the content of which largely depends on the conditions of plant growth, as well as the period of its development. Their maximum number is fixed in the budding phase of the plant. During this period, it varies from 3.5 to 5%.

D-camphor is the most important component of the essential oil of this plant. It is highly soluble in hydrocarbons, acids, esters and alcohols. In water, it dissolves much weaker. In addition, the composition of the district includes:

  • Dipentene;
  • Hawikol;
  • Terpinolene;
  • Sabinen;
  • Eugenol;
  • Camphene;
  • Flavonoids;
  • Bisabolen;
  • Benzoic aldehyde;
  • Saponins;

Useful and medicinal properties

Raykhon is a herb whose useful properties are widely used not only in folk, but also in traditional medicine. Preparations based on it are recommended for:

  • Diseases of the respiratory system;

Raykhon is an herb used to make camphor. Doctors prescribe it in the form of injections with a weakening of the heart muscle, poisoning with sleeping pills. In large doses, this drug is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, and is also part of convulsive therapy.

Application in Cooking

Raikhon takes a special place in the Caucasian cuisine. This is one of the most common spices in this region. Basil is perfectly combined with tomatoes and various dishes from them. Raykhon: application, description of prescription drugs

If the use of this herb in cooking depends largely on your preferences and taste, then in preparation of medicines based on basil, you must strictly follow the recommendations for preparation and dosage.

1. Infusion with cystitis, pyelitis.

Five grams of grass fill with boiling water (500 ml). Let it brew for at least two hours and take 100 ml five times a day.

2. Infusion with hypertension.

Spoon one tablespoon of herbs with 500 ml of boiling water. The container is immediately tightly closed and insisted for at least 20 minutes. Take this formulation should be 50 ml three times a day.

3. Tea balm with CNS depression.

Mix two tablespoons of green and black tea with the same amount of dry and chopped herbs of rajon and peppermint. Add a teaspoon of thyme to the mixture. Mix well the herbs and pour them 500 ml of boiling water. After 15 minutes, tea can be filtered and during the day to drink small sips.

4. From toothache.

5. Juice with cystitis.

The juice is taken one teaspoonful (tea) for ten days in the evening and in the morning. Then the treatment should be interrupted for ten days, and after that you can repeat the course.

6. Infusion of eye fatigue.

Dry leaves of basil (2 tbsp.) Pour boiling water (1.5 l). As soon as it cools, strain through two layers of gauze. Flush with this infusion of the eyes and make lotions on the eyelids for two weeks at least two times a day (can be more often). Then stop the treatment for a week. After the break, the course can be repeated.
