What does the Italian strike mean?

A huge number of workers in various fields of activity around the world use different measures as a protest, among which there is a strike. Its Italian version differs significantly from most analogues, and thus the employer has no reason to punish employees in any way. This is its advantage, but also a defect that allows management to ignore the demands of workers. The effectiveness of a strike differs depending on the mood of the staff, the functions they perform and the severity of the problem. The more complex the issue under discussion and the more opportunities for employees, the more likely a positive result.

What is an Italian strike?

This concept is a protest action, in which people, rather than refuse to perform their functions, on the contrary, begin to perform them so meticulously and literally that the efficiency of labor falls significantly. This is the main difference from other analogs. In the usual case, the work simply stops, which allows the employer to apply certain measures of influence on rebellious subordinates. But in the version with the Italian version of the formal reasons for such actions simply do not. The basis is the impossibility of compiling such an official or service instruction, which would correctly assess the entire activity of the employee. Often, it says a lot of blurry, which allows workers to find fault with every point. The work will be done, but much slower and not as efficient as in the normal mode.

First use

For the first time the term "Italian strike" appeared in 1904. It was introduced by employees of the railway company, which were extremely unhappy with the activities of the management, but did not have the opportunity to simply stop work. Instead, they began to perform their functions very meticulously and not a single step away from them. Theoretically, this approach should have raised efficiency, but in fact everything started to happen much more slowly. Many trains were canceled, and the company suffered huge losses. According to other sources, for the first time the same thing happened in Italy too, but not with railwaymen, but with pilots. The essence of this does not change. An interesting feature is that in some cases the instructions are not used, according to which the workers are obliged to perform their functions, but specially developed by the employees themselves rules that do not contradict the law and the letter of regulatory documentation, but in fact significantly slow down the work process.

Events in the port of St. Petersburg

In Russia, the first such thing happened around 1907. At least this year is indicated in the newspaper in which this term was first discovered. To this day, such strikes are regularly held around the world. In 2015, another Italian strike took place in St. Petersburg. The seaport, whose workers protested against existing labor contracts, was practically paralyzed, although all its functions were carried out rigorously. Is that very long and extremely inefficient. Losses were enormous. The company first tried to find a compromise, but invariably encountered the lack of workers' desire to make concessions. In the end, the situation was resolved. Details were not disclosed, but it is unlikely that both sides have achieved exactly the conditions they wanted.

Doctors in Moscow

Another similar case, though not on such a scale, has comprehended our capital. Moscow, an Italian strike in which it took place in the same year of 2015, did not feel any inconvenience, since the problem concerned working conditions in a single hospital. And not all doctors joined the protests. But the situation got a resonance strong enough, which the doctors and sought. It is difficult to imagine how a physician will act, which strictly observes all instructions, standards and requirements. In fact, given the total number of them and the fact that they treat the same thing in many ways in different ways, it is not surprising that the medical service was practically stopped.

Protests in the State Duma

Even before the Italian strike of doctors began, in 2012 this happened in the governing bodies of the country. So, the deputies of "Fair Russia" tried to delay the time for consideration of the bill that did not suit them, as a result of which such a protest action was chosen. She expressed herself in the monotonous reading and examination of hundreds of amendments, each of which was refined for an incredibly long time. It was planned to make about 1000 such elements, but only 357 turned out. This did not lead to success. The only thing that happened was to stretch a couple of extra hours. Intervened "United Russia", which trivially crushed the problem by the number of its votes.

Japanese variety

The Italian strike has direct analogies in other countries. An excellent example of this is Japan, in which employees also often arrange similar protests. But taking into account the mentality of the population of this state, this is somewhat peculiar. The first difference, which is simply not clear to a Russian person, is the employer's warning that exactly one month later, if he does not heed the demands of the employees, they will start a strike. It is simply expressed in that, in addition to following the instructions clearly, adorn their uniform with signs and inscriptions pointing to the fact against which the protest is taking place.

Italian Truckers

Not all protests on the Apennine peninsula occur in this style. A direct example of this is the strike of Italian truckers, which was held in a hard style. They simply blocked all major transport routes, paralyzing the country for a long period. In stores, even there was a shortage of products, which has not happened for a long time. Losses for the state were incredible. In the end, the requirements of the drivers were met. If we analyze all factors, we can conclude that the Italian type of strike extremely rarely leads to the desired result. Most often, it simply attracts public opinion and indirectly forces management to at least partially meet the demands of employees. Such protests rarely arise for really serious reasons.

How to deal with Italian strikes?

When such a concept only appeared, the question arose immediately what to do if it is impossible to satisfy the demands of protesters. There are several main ways. The first is based on ignoring the very fact of the strike. If the enterprise is not principled profit or reduced efficiency, then no positive effect is simply not achieved. This is true of government institutions, most of which do not generate any income. Another option is to anticipate such an opportunity in advance and create such instructions, the verbatim implementation of which will not affect the company's efficiency. It's almost impossible. The third method is pressure on employees. This is not only dangerous, it can lead to a toughening of the protest, but in many cases it is also illegal. The simplest option is to listen to the demands of employees and, as far as possible, explain why they are unworkable. Promise to improve the situation, as soon as opportunities for this emerge, and so on. Usually this is enough, but you need to remember that you will have to fulfill promises sooner or later.

Results

The Italian strike refers to completely legitimate methods of protest. It does not in any way allow the employer to impose penalties or penalties on employees. This is both a strong and a weak side of it. With such a strike, employees are still forced to go to work and strictly perform their functions. Not always it is possible to achieve such effect which would force the employer really to listen to requirements. In principle, such a protest action is an average option between a complete stoppage of the company's activities and its operation in the normal mode. It is noted that serious issues are not solved in this way, but it is quite realistic to draw attention to small problems.
