Cabbage early, varieties and peculiarities of their cultivation

Among all the crops that are grown on the backyard, by many gardeners a considerable area is allocated for the cultivation of cabbage, which is an integral part of the balanced diet for many dishes. Early cabbage, whose varieties have a vegetation period of up to 90-120 days, is an obligatory mistress in the garden, as in the early green leaves of cabbage there are many vitamins and nutrients that are especially needed for the human body in the early spring. That is why cabbage is often grown in our cottages and gardens.

However, many gardeners face great problems, because this vegetable culture is characterized by increased requirements for soil, and also requires serious protection against harmful insects. As for the soil, the early cabbage, the varieties of which are harvested especially for the early harvest, need a large amount of humus, the upper fertile layer, which is rich in nutrients for plants. Excellent cabbage grows on soils well fertilized with manure or humus (the latter is preferable), because there it receives a balanced diet for the roots and makes the farmers happy with good harvests.

It should also be borne in mind that broccoli, a variety of which can be found on the market in a large assortment, is also often grown, although it is possible to cook not so many dishes as from white cabbage. A feature of the early varieties is that the leaves of such cabbage are tender and juicy, which are often used in various salads. Everyone knows that spring salads with the addition of such useful condiments as cabbage leaves, parsley, green onions and other greens are very useful, and enhance the human immunity, especially after a long winter. Cabbage is extremely useful in this respect.

It is also important to know that when growing cabbage, it should be constantly protected against pests that are sufficiently large. First of all, cabbage is early, varieties and its species are attacked by butterflies, which from early spring begin to spin over it and lay eggs on the cabbage leaves. Later, caterpillars appear from them, which cause serious damage to the future crop. To protect against this pest, many gardeners spray plants with insecticides, however, recently more and more people prefer to use biologically active drugs that are environmentally safe and do not harm either the plant or the environment.

Among the main varieties of early cabbage, one can distinguish a golden hectare 1432, early ripening VIR, Derbenskaya, Stakhanovka, Malakhit and Dobrovodskaya. All these types of cabbage can be grown not only in the south, but also in the middle band of Russia, as it is adapted to our growing conditions.

In addition, a good result can be obtained by sprinkling young cabbage plants with infusion from tomato tops, as a result of which butterflies begin to confuse cabbage with tomato plants and do not delay larvae. This simple method is also used by some ingenious truck farmers.

As for Brussels sprouts, it is more resistant to pests and tolerates drought well. Cabbage Brussels, whose varieties include Boxer, Dolmik Hercules, Casio and Rosella, has a longer growing season, and its immunity is fairly persistent. Cabbage kohlrabi also has good resistance to drought and disease, which makes it quite popular among vegetable crops.
