What is conjugivitis in children. Treatment of the disease.

Often, ophthalmic doctors are treated with complaints about the presence of a purulent discharge from the eyes, the difficulty of opening them in the morning, the clotting of eyelashes, the redness of the sclera of the eyeballs, and the fact that the patient constantly feels like sand has entered his eyes or some other foreign matter body. The main cause of these complaints can be inflammation of the tender eye mucosa - conjunctivitis. It can affect either one eye or two at once. Especially unpredictable is conjunctivitis in children. Treatment of childhood inflammation of the eyes is very difficult to implement in practice due to the age of the patients and the related features.

There is a large classification of species of conjunctivitis, which is based on the source of development of this eye pathology, i.e. Its etiological factors. They are infectious agents: bacteria, viruses, fungi; Trauma, chemical burns, allergic and neurogenic disorders, hypovitaminous conditions. Conjunctivitis is a serious disease that should never be treated independently and with folk remedies, especially if it is conjunctivitis in children. Treatment of advanced inflammations of the eyes is always very difficult to carry out than treatment of primary, which easily succumb to adequate therapy already at the very beginning.

Some conjunctivitis, if triggered, can lead to a more serious eye disease, such as keratitis, or inflammation of the cornea. The cornea is a thin transparent shell of the eye, the only structure of the body that does not have blood vessels and is most rich in nerve endings. The latter also provides us with a strong pain effect when the slightest foreign matter hits it. Its transparency is disturbed during the development of inflammatory processes in it. If they are not treated in a timely manner, they can penetrate into the deep layers and lead to a clouding of the cornea, which permanently reduces visual acuity. Especially incomprehensible is the conjunctivitis of the infants, Because of the small size of the eyes it is difficult to immediately establish the nature of his illness. It can be an isolated conjunctivitis, and can initially be combined with keratitis. However, one should not be immediately frightened, this happens only in exceptional cases. Congenital conjunctivitis, even if it is conjunctivitis in infants, is fairly well and successfully treated with modern ophthalmic drugs.

When making an accurate diagnosis, depending on the underlying cause, an ophthalmologist is appointed:

  • Antibacterial preparations in the form of eye drops ( levomitsetin , floksal , tobramitsin (tobrebs), tsipromed, offtakvix, etc.) and ophthalmic ointments (tetracycline, floxal, etc.)
  • Antiviral drugs as local (interferon, ophthalmoferon, poludan, zovirax, virgan, etc.), and systemic action (cycloferon, acyclovir, etc.)
  • Anti-inflammatory preparations (diclofenac, diclof-f, with caution dexamethasone),
  • Vitamins (taufon, emoksipin, vitamins of group B, C, A),
  • Antiseptics (furacilin, potassium permanganate weak solution).

It is very important to use the prescribed drugs from the very first days when conjunctivitis started . In children, treatment should be strictly controlled by parents, so that children do not miss their instillation regimen, because this will determine their speedy recovery. Moms and dads should not forget to follow the child's personal hygiene: as often as possible to change to him handkerchiefs and face towels, to force him to wash his hands, with which he constantly strives to scratch his inflamed eyes, and also to isolate him for the time from communication with other children. The last extreme measure is connected with the fact that in conjured children's groups the conjunctivitis spreads very quickly and "blooms". In children, treatment of the disease in such cases should be carried out at home, under the supervision of a doctor.
