Vitamin E in Pregnancy Planning

Vitamin E (tocopherol) is now very popular among women. It is even called the "most female vitamin". Especially important is vitamin E when planning pregnancy.

It is produced as a mono drug, and can be a part of vitamin complexes, biological supplements and even cosmetic products.

For all the usefulness of tocopherol, however, do not mindlessly rush into the pool, and start drinking it with spoons. This drug needs a certain dose, taking into account the characteristics of health and other specific features of the state of the body. Any medicine in large quantities can turn into poison. Therefore, even to such harmless drugs as vitamins, you need to be careful and attentive.

Properties of Vitamin E

It is a magnificent antioxidant (protects cells from oxidation, which leads to a gradual aging, and then to death). It is well known that antioxidants are able to protect the body from cancer.

In this vitamin all the tissues of our body need. Vitamin E when planning pregnancy is simply a must. It protects erythrocytes, increases the flow of oxygen to tissues and organs. It improves blood coagulability, which prevents blood clots. In general, a positive effect on the entire vascular system.

Tocopherol is very useful for the normal functioning of the reproductive system, so it is also called the "vitamin of reproduction".

Appreciate it and for its cosmetic properties: the ability to nourish the skin and mucous membranes, improve the condition of nails and hair.

E helps the body to restore energy, prevents the appearance of unpleasant pigment spots, retains the elasticity of the skin, well affects the condition of the muscular system.

Vitamin E in the planning of pregnancy

Particularly necessary tocopherol becomes during intensive cell division. Therefore, during pregnancy to protect the growing fetus, mothers are assigned this drug in increased dosage.

Pregnant this drug is necessary for avoiding complications, such as preeclampsia (excess fluid and high blood pressure in the last trimester).

Dosage

The dosage of the drug is taken into account in international units (so-called ME). However, on some packages of vitamin complexes, you can see the dosage in milligrams.

1 IU is equal to 0.67 milligrams of tocopherol (1 milligram of tocopherol acetate).

There is a specially developed scale that determines the minimum daily dosage of tocopherol, depending on the age and sex of the person. For infants it is 3-4 IU, preschool children - 6-7 IU, schoolchildren - 7-8 IU, men - 10 IU, women - 8 ME. A separate category is pregnant women. Vitamin E when planning pregnancy is required to drink at least 10-15 IU per day, as the need for tocopherol in this period is very significantly increased.

Sources of Vitamin E

You can draw tocopherol from natural sources. They are rich in products with a high content of fats: vegetable oils, nuts, liver, milk, butter, cereals.

An additional source are drugs (complim, undevit, vitamins for pregnant vitrum, etc.) In polyvitamins intended for pregnant women, the presence of tocopherol is mandatory. Such vitamins are designed to cover the daily need for E.

The domestic preparation "Vitamin E" in one dragee contains 100 IU of tocopherol. Imported preparations contain 100, 200 and even 400 IU. As a rule, they are much more expensive. However, in addition to dosage, there is no difference between foreign and Russian drugs. Therefore, vitamins during pregnancy can be drunk and domestic.

Contraindications to the intake of vitamin E:

- hypersensitivity to tocopherol or intolerance of the drug.

Side effects may be in some cases, allergic reactions or nausea and diarrhea.

Hypervitaminosis of tocopherol is practically not found. To the negative consequences for the development of the fetus may result in a dosage of more than 40,000 IU per day.

Safe for pregnant women are doses that do not exceed 1000 mg per day. But taking the drug in quantities that exceed the need for them, does not make sense, since it will not have any positive effect on the course of pregnancy. At least more than 100 IU per day is not recommended.
