Underwater hunting in the Leningrad region: the best places

Underwater hunting is a popular form of recreation and sports for those who do not want to sit on the ground waiting for a bite, but take the initiative in their own hands.

Most often, underwater hunting is associated with the depths of the seas and oceans, where in the thickness of the water there are strange or dangerous fish. In fact, to participate in such an exciting lesson, you do not need to go "to the sea". Underwater hunting in the Leningrad region can be as exciting an adventure as tracking down a large barracuda in the waters of the Indian Ocean.

Underwater hunting

The ability to fish under water is inherent in mankind since ancient times. It is well known from historical sources that this type of fish production was developed from ancient Greeks, Japanese and other peoples from the Mediterranean to Asia.

Hunting for the fish was carried out with a delay in breathing under the water, and the tools were trident or severe. Later people began to use crossbows, and underwater hunting (professional reviews say this) became a kind of recreation and sport.

Underwater hunting requires:

  • Excellent physical fitness;
  • good health;
  • Good reaction;
  • The ability to track down and pursue prey in an environment that is not human.

This is considered hunting with a delay in breathing. Experienced athletes can dive to a depth of 30 m and hold their breath for up to 5 minutes. Underwater hunting in the Leningrad region does not require such serious skills, since basically diving in local rivers and lakes occurs at a depth of 2 to 10 meters.

The Gulf of Finland

In 100 km from St. Petersburg, the water in the Gulf of Finland is more transparent, which makes hunting productive. The main prey of underwater hunters here is the eel, some of which reach 4 kg of weight.

Also, not in the wonder of catching a meter pike, rarely come across whitefish and pike perch. The most frequent trophies are bream and perch, and those who get carp, which in these places grow up to 10 kg, are considered lucky.

If you come to the hunt for the southern or northern shore of the bay in the fall, then there is a chance to catch a salmon or trout. They can meet on stony ridges, but if you take the Gulf of Finland, the best places for underwater hunting in the Leningrad region are in the vicinity of the Berezovye Islands (near Vyborg). Also these places are considered a good start for beginners, since the transparency of the water and the absence of thickets on the bottom make it possible to develop the skills necessary for an underwater hunter.

Peipsi Lake

If there is a question about where to go to the underwater hunting in the Leningrad region, then with a choice of a reservoir there will be no problems. Starting from the smallest and ending with large lakes, here is everywhere the fish.

The area of Lake Peipsi is 2,670 km 2 , and its depth is small, only 8 to 12 meters. A distinctive feature of the lake is its dry beaches, clear sandy bottom and visibility up to 5 m. Submarine hunters here are expected to pike, perch, burbot, ide and whitefish.

When diving, it is important not to get carried away by the pursuit and remember that the lake is now a border area. You can swim in the neighboring Baltic state and notice this, only becoming a "catch" of the water police.

In this regard, many lovers of diving prefer other places, although without extraction from Lake Peipsus no one leaves.

Lakes near St. Petersburg

Some lakes for underwater hunting in the Leningrad Region are suitable for diving without water craft, and some can not do without them because of rugged coastlines and rocky bottom.

Lakes Otradnoye and Komsomolskoe many submariners love not only for the opportunity to hunt well, but also for their location in very picturesque places of the region. These lakes have a rugged shore, so it is advisable to have a boat.

The sight is here up to 3.5 m at a depth of 15 to 20 meters. You can catch pike, carp, pike perch and whitefish, and in the waters of Komsomol Lake there is still a peled with a golden yazem. What is typical, the visibility on these lakes is good enough in any weather.

To not move far from the city, you can go to the Blue Lakes, named because of the color of the water. If you choose where there is more interesting underwater hunting in the Leningrad region, the best places are right here. Although they do not abound in fish like other lakes, but at a depth of 20 m here in clear weather visibility is up to 10 meters. The prey of hunters will be pike, roach, crucian carp and perch.

  • In Vysokinsky transparent water, and from the catch, large pikes and breams, ide, perch and whitefish are most often caught;
  • In Lake Zerkalnoe and the chain of reservoirs near Petya'yrev, a good view into the depths, and besides the usual set of fish, there is also roach;
  • Hunters for pelia, chirom and carp are waiting for Lake Svetloye and Zhemchuzhnoe, which are part of the group of Morozov lakes;
  • Lake Kopanskoe is well known to all hunters, as there are 10 years of underwater hunting competitions in the struggle for the cup of the Baltic;
  • In the Glubokoye lake only experienced submariners can hunt because of poor visibility and great depth, but lucky people here expect a burbot and a bugler;
  • On Lake Vreva visibility is up to 5 m, but the depth of 42 meters makes hunting difficult.

It is important to remember that underwater hunting in the Leningrad region can be dangerous because of the numerous networks that the local population living near the lakes place. You can not go hunting without a knife.

Artificially created on Narva lake like underwater hunters because of the presence of large fish and depth of only 2-3 meters. Of the 191 km 2, just over 150 km 2 belongs to the Russian side and 40 km 2 to Estonia.

The only drawback of the Narva reservoir is the change in visibility after several days of winds. For example, if the east wind is blowing, then the water will be brown from peat and muddy. The visibility is only 40-50 cm.

In other respects this pond is an ideal place for hunting, from which it is recommended to begin beginners, since even without them do not leave. Here there are smelt, roach, pike, perch and bream. Especially interesting is reed hunting, which requires the skills of silent walking and the ability to notice the fish in the thickets.

Bream and shrimp lakes

For hunters who prefer hunting fish and pike perch from all types of fish, it is necessary to know in advance what kind of pond to go to.

Bream and pike perch like summer warmer water and lakes with a little vegetation on the bottom. Sudak spawns near stony beaches or islets, so there are no sandy beaches near such reservoirs and the presence of a water craft is mandatory. Underwater hunting in the Leningrad region obliges you to buy or rent a boat, since most of the lakes have a rugged coastline.

Of the huge number of ponds in the region of pike-perch is found only in 36 of them, for example, in Polisto, Dvin-Velinsky, Necheritsa, Usho, Uritsk, Siverst, Nevedro, Jazne and others. In addition to pike perch and bream, roach, bumblebee, sticking, pike and ide are also found in them, and crucian and line are less common.

Lakes with stickers

These fish prefer a shallow depth and rugged banks with bays and islets. Usually there are a lot of bottom and surface vegetation in such reservoirs, and the bottom is muddy, so that without water crafts and on these lakes can not do.

It is in such conditions like to inhabit the stickers, but in addition they are found bream, pike and perch (near the coast), carp and line. Among this type of reservoir, Karatay, Nevelskoye, Zalosemye, Ordovo and others enjoy success in lovers of underwater hunting.

Especially good here is underwater hunting in autumn. In the Leningrad region, lakes are especially famous for a large number of fish, and in such reservoirs it is good to develop skills for beginners, since in them the depth is only a few meters and there are reeds.

Hunting in the Neva

The Neva River stretches for 74 km and is navigable at a depth of 15 meters. Underwater hunters should be extremely cautious, and beginners should not begin to develop skills here, since in addition to the strong current in the Neva, many flooded objects, such as reinforced concrete structures, logs and fittings.
