The thrombus breaks off: what can it lead to?

Everyone has heard of a blood clot. But many do not know what he is dangerous. The formation of a thrombus is a protective mechanism of the body, which prevents blood loss when the vessel is damaged. However, its formation can be caused by disturbances in the functioning of the body without damaging the vessel. This article will tell you how and why the thrombus breaks off, as well as measures to prevent the development of thrombosis.

What is a thrombus?

A thrombus is a blood clot that forms in the blood vessels or cavities of the heart. There are two types: pristenochny (formed in large veins and the heart cavity) and clogging (in small vessels). Clots appear not immediately, gradually. First, small plaques are formed, which grow and increase in size. When the thrombus breaks off, it goes to sail.

The main reasons for education:

- Vessel wall changes;

- Increase in the viscosity of the blood;

- violation of blood flow.

Why does the thrombus come off?

The severed thrombus moves with blood flow through the vessels. Migrating blood clots is very dangerous, as they can move and fragment for a considerable distance. All these actions can lead to the clogging of a huge number of vessels, and in narrow places in general completely block the blood flow. What causes thromboembolism? No one can accurately answer the question: "Why does the thrombus come off and exactly when you least expect it?" For example, a person lived, did not complain about health, made plans, enjoyed life. But suddenly he began to suffocate, lost consciousness and died. An ambulance doctor states a sudden coronary death. "The blood clot has come off!" - he calls the reason. To prevent such situations, experts recommend conducting timely prevention.

Prevention

Doctors advise to follow a healthy diet. More eating plant foods that do not contain cholesterol. To lead an active way of life, to do physical exercises, to run, more to walk on fresh air. Do not dehydrate the body. Drink more than two liters of still water (not sugary drinks and juices, namely pure water). Elderly people should monitor the pressure. Every year there is a planned examination.

Signs of a severed thrombus

Symptoms are possible different, it all depends on the vessel in which the blood clot was formed.

Arterial thrombosis leads to the appearance of:

  • Stroke (signs: neurological disorders);
  • Myocardial infarction (symptoms: pain in the region of the heart);
  • Gangrene (signs: pain, cooling, numbness and discoloration of limbs);
  • Bowel necrosis (symptoms: abdominal pain, intestinal obstruction).

With venous thrombosis, the diseases manifest themselves depending on their localization:

  • Thrombosis of the venous sinus and jugular vein of the brain of the head (signs: pain in the neck, visual impairment);
  • Thrombophlebitis in the lower extremities (signs: swelling, pain in the legs);
  • Thrombosis portal portal of the liver (symptoms: abdominal pain, cirrhosis, pancreatitis).

Treatment

In medicine, there are two ways to eliminate thrombus:

1. Surgical method.

- Shunting. The doctor, bypassing the affected vessel, places an additional way of blood supply.

- Stenting. A more modern way. Install the stent (hollow cylinder) through the puncture in the artery.

- Mechanical removal.

2. Therapeutic method. Appointed drugs: thrombolytics, which are administered intravenously, and antibiotics. Apply heparin-containing ointments, compresses with a solution of alcohol, install a cava filter - a trap for a thrombus.

The formation of a thrombus has two sides, like a medal. With one, this process protects the body from bleeding, and on the other - leads to sudden death. Which is extremely undesirable. Take care of yourself!
