The State Emblem of Belarus. Flag of Belarus

Belarusian history is filled with difficult moments, but the country was able to gain independence and preserve its cultural traditions. They perfectly reflect the coat of arms and the flag of Belarus. Each of them has a deep meaning that deserves attention.

What does the modern flag look like?

The state cloth is made in the form of a rectangle, the sides of which are correlated in proportion two to one. Three colors are used on the flag: white, green and red. The first is a vertical strip. Red goes horizontally, occupying two-thirds of the width, and the green bar fills the remaining third. On the white part there is a national Belarusian pattern, created in the beginning of the twentieth century by a resident of the village of Kostelishche named Matryona Markovich. This flag has been used since independence, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but in Soviet times the cloth was almost identical: it was supplemented by a golden image of a sickle, a hammer and a star. Belarus is the only country that has preserved such symbolism.

The meaning of the flag

Red color has the ancient meaning of the sun, the struggle for a just cause and blood ties. In addition, he connects contemporary Belarusians with the events of the Battle of Grunwald, in which the inhabitants managed to defeat the crusaders, and heroes of the Second World War. Green is the color of nature, it is a sign of a fertile field, hard-working peasants, forests and meadows, which the country is so famous for. White serves as a symbol of freedom. Even the name of the state is associated with this color. The Belarusian ornament symbolizes the ancient culture, it is a peculiar way of spelling the divine forces. It consists of diligence, a wish for happiness, eternity and movement. By combining its elements, the Belarusian flag tells the history of the people and its main features.

National Coat of Arms of Belarus

The emblem of the country is no less significant symbol. He, like the flag, captures the most important national values of Belarusians, their desire for peace and their readiness to fight for freedom, unity, diligence. The coat of arms of Belarus is executed on a silver field centered on the green outline of the state border. He follows the golden rays of the sun that rises above the planet Earth. Above is a red five-pointed star. The field is framed with wreaths of wheat ears, on the right, complemented by clover, and on the left - flax flowers. Three times they are wrapped in ribbons of red-green color, in the center on them the inscription "The Republic of Belarus" in the state language is made. The symbolism of the green contour in the sun's rays is simple - this is what all Belarusians are directing their thoughts to, this is their native land, which must be preserved in existing borders for future generations. Wreaths are signs of the memory of ancestors. The coat of arms of Belarus reflects the ancient tradition of putting ears of grain in the house for good luck.

History of Symbols

Like in other countries, the republic did not immediately come up with the use of such heraldic signs. The modern coat of arms of Belarus has been used by all state bodies since 1995, when a nationwide referendum was held to identify important issues of symbolism and language. The flag was adopted at the same time. Some citizens believe that Soviet symbols had to be abandoned. The national coat of arms of Belarus and its flag used the white-red coloring and the drawing "Pursuit". The opposition-minded population continues to use them, as such heraldry was in the course of the Soviet era and more deeply reflects the state history. But at the official level, they do not plan to recognize them, removing the existing option.
