Ivanov's coat of arms. Description and symbols

Ivanovo is one of the key cities of Russia, located in the Central Federal District. One of the main crafts is needlework and fabric production. That is why the city received a huge number of different nicknames, for example, "City of Brides" or "Calico Edge". The Ivanov coat of arms includes the designation of the industrial importance of the city for the country.

Modern coat of arms. Description

The last draft of the coat of arms was approved in 1996. It depicts a young girl in a traditional Russian dress:

  • Silver shirt with a golden collar and red embroidery on the sleeves.
  • A scarlet sundress, also decorated with gold embroidery.
  • A traditional Russian headpiece is a kokoshnik of red color with gold ornaments, a silver shawl is put under it.

Ivanov's coat of arms shows the girl at work. She spins the yarn. Next to it is depicted a golden hand-wheel, thanks to which white threads are obtained. The girl is depicted on a heavenly, blue background.

As a form, a classic French shield was chosen. In this style, the heraldry of most cities of Russia is framed.

Symbolism

Many people are interested in Ivanov's unusual coat of arms. What does this symbol mean and why was the girl-needlewoman chosen as the main figure?

The answer is very simple: from a long time ago this city was secretly called the textile capital of Russia. Most of the fabrics and quality products were manufactured exactly at local factories. And that's why the beauty in the traditional Russian costume, engaged in needlework, decorates the heraldic symbol of the city.

Coat of arms of Ivanovo-Voznesensk

For a very long time, from 1871 to 1932, the two cities were united among themselves and, accordingly, had to have their main symbol. But they claimed it for a very long time, there were a lot of different projects. The authors proposed to depict a crowned lion, two anchors and a precious crown.

In 1918, Ivanov's coat of arms was still adopted: on a gold background, a blue anchor was made, in the left corner the main color changed to red, it depicted a gold, standing on two paws lion.

The coat of arms of Ivanovo in Soviet times

Many Soviet symbols were depicted by traditional elements that spoke in advance of the policy of the state. Most often as a basic composition, stars, a sickle, a hammer or gears were chosen. These symbols personified the importance of this or that region for the country as a whole. The choice of a certain element was based on the main type of activity. Developed agriculture or the presence of large, strategically important plants determined the subject of heraldry in the region.

The coat of arms of Ivanov, adopted in 1970, on the contrary, was laconic and modest. A torch and a spindle were depicted on a blue background. These symbols spoke about the main activity of the city.

Heraldry of many cities of Russia changed during their existence. Ivanov's coat of arms, the photo of which is shown above, is also no exception. Symbolism directly depended on the political state of the country. During the reign of the tsar, fashion was an elaborate style and the use of the royal crown or lions on the arms and flags. Most often, gold or red colors were chosen.

At that moment in history, when communists came to power, the direction of the country, including the main heraldry, completely changed. Each region began to depict its main trade, characterizing the importance of the working class.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the government became democratic, and that is why many cities changed their arms, depicting the most important symbols for them. The subject of heraldry fell into the background, and each subject of the country was given freedom of choice.
