The State Academic Maly Theater of Russia: repertoire and actors

Our article is devoted to such an institution as the Academic Maly Theater. In our country, two temples of art bear such a name. One of them is in Moscow, and the other in St. Petersburg. Both theaters are one of the most famous, popular and successful in Russia.

History of the Moscow Maly Theater

The State Academic Maly Theater was opened in the middle of the 18th century by the decree of Empress Elizabeth. He was open at the university. The performances were attended by students. At the same university, a public theater was established. He did not exist too long, but it was he who formed the basis of the first permanent troupe in Moscow.

Initially, the theater was private and owned by entrepreneurs. In the early 19 th century, he moved to public account and became the Imperial. In addition to the dramatic actors, the troupe at that time included singers, dancers and musicians. In the repertoire there were performances of various genres. Here they showed not only dramatic productions, but also ballets with operas.

The Maly Theater has replaced several rooms and its permanent home, which still lives, was found in 1824.

Initially, the word "Small" in the title was not its own name and was not written with a capital letter. It meant only the size of the building. In the same way as the "Bolshoi" theater was called such because of the area of the room that it occupies. Today the word "Small" is a proper name, it is written with a capital letter and is not translated into other languages.

The artistic director of the theater has been the famous actor Yuri Solomin for many years. In the troupe, which has more than a hundred artists, there is a huge number of famous actors.

The season premiere

The Academic Maly Theater this season presented several new productions to the public. Among them, the play based on the play by A. Ostrovsky "Heart is not a stone."

This is the story of a rich merchant who is seriously ill and is going to make a will. He is a serious man, he made a fortune by his wisdom and not without cunning. A merchant is not a capricious tyrant.

The hero does not know who to make the heir of his enormous fortune. Before him, the choice is a poor and lazy nephew, or a young, beautiful wife. Who of them is more worthy to receive the capital of a rich man? The relative of the merchant is a man greedy for money. The spouse is modest, honest, she does not take care of outsiders. But relatives in every way try to ensure that the merchant doubts the fidelity and purity of his young wife. In whose favor is the merchant still deciding to make a will?

The play was written a long time ago, but does not lose its relevance to this day.

About the Maly Theater of St. Petersburg

The Small Academic Theater (St. Petersburg) opened its doors to viewers during the harsh wartime. His year of birth is 1944. The troupe was very small, it did not have its own premises. The performances were shown in small towns and in the townships of the region. In Leningrad itself, the actors did not perform.

After 30 years of the theater's existence, E. Padsef-a disciple of G. Tovstonogov became the main director in it. He invited to the troupe of young talented actors, as well as directors. It was he who attracted the cooperation of the current art director - L.Dodin. Then the theater began to gain fame.

Today, Small is one of the recognized leaders in our country. He is known for his performances all over the world. The troupe traveled almost all the countries of Europe. The performances of the Maly Theater are awarded not only at home. They received awards in France, Italy, Great Britain.

Almost every year, starting from 1998, Maly becomes a laureate of the "Golden Mask" in various nominations.

In 1997 the branch of Small was opened in the city of Kirishi.

In the name of the MDT there is a postscript - "Theater of Europe". The troupe received such status in 1998 by the decision of the Assembly. In the world there are only three theaters that have a similar name. One of them is our Small Drama. In addition to the top three include the famous: Milan "Piccolo" and the Paris "Odeon". The assignment of this status to MDT was due to the fact that he visited with tours in almost all corners of the planet. Virtually none of the most prestigious and famous theatrical festival can not do without MDT.

The Maly Theater actively cooperates with young directors from other countries.

Lev Abramovich is also a teacher. It is his graduates who make up the backbone of the troupe.

In addition to rehearsals and performances in the theater for actors, classes are conducted on vocals, movement and stage speech. Attend classes are not only the beginning artists, but also the recognized masters of the scene.

In 1999, MDT had a second building with a chamber stage. The hall is very small and is designed for only 50 spectators. The chamber scene acts as an experimental laboratory. Young directors and actors are practicing and trying their creative powers here.

Lev Dodin

Academic Maly Theater has lived for 34 years under the strict guidance of L. Dodin. Lev Abramovich was born in Leningrad in 1944. From childhood I studied at the Youth Theater. Then he graduated from the Theater Institute. The career of L. Dodin began in 1966. Then he collaborated with various leading theaters of Russia and abroad. In Maly Lion Abramovich came in 1980. And in 3 years he became not only the chief director, but also the art director, and in 2003 also the director. These positions he still occupies. The performances, staged by L. Dodin, are awarded with awards and prizes. Repeatedly he became a laureate of the Golden Mask.
