The roots of kalgan: a universal raw material for medicinal preparations

The roots of the Kalgan are part of the long-term plant of the same name from the family of Rosaceae. The scientific name of it is the erect stone. The roots of the Kalgan are woody, tuberous. The height of the ctenote reaches 10-20 cm, the stems of it are raised or erect, thin, slightly short-haired, well-leafy, single flowers. It is distributed almost throughout the territory of the Russian Federation.

For medicinal purposes, all parts of the plant are used. One of them is the root of the Kalgan, whose properties are most pronounced from this point of view, since the largest amount of useful substances accumulate in it. For this, it is harvested in the first half of autumn or April-May, when only the radical leaves begin to grow. The plant contains essential oils and tannins. It contains organic and phenolcarbonic acids: coffee, dihydroxybenzoic, gallic, p-coumaric. Kalgan contains triterpenoids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, phenols (floroglucin, pyrocatechin), cyanidin glucoside, vitamin C. It contains lipids in which higher fatty acids are present: pentadecanoic, stearic, lauric, oleic, linolenic, linoleic, palmitic.

The roots of kalgan and preparations based on them have high pharmacological activity, which is caused by a high content of tannins, flavonoids, saponins (triterpene). Means from this plant have hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, astringent, bactericidal and restorative effect. The roots of Kalgan in folk medicine are very widely used. Preparations from them are used for the treatment of gastrointestinal ailments: ulcers (stomach and duodenum), enterocolitis, gastritis, diarrhea, cholecystitis, colitis. The outer root of the calgan application was found for healing from diseases such as skin cracks, eclamps, eczema, burns, inflammation, fungi, hemorrhoids.

The healers have been using this plant for cooking tinctures and decoctions for fighting uterine and intestinal bleedings, trichomonatal colpitis, thyroid gland diseases, frostbite, renal colic. They are used for angina, tuberculosis, inflammation of the nasopharynx, hematomas, painful menstruation, insomnia, jaundice, rheumatism, dysentery, convulsions. It is well known that Kalgan has a positive effect on the body of men, with the help of which it is possible to restore or strengthen potency. Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties help to fight prostatitis.

The roots of this plant are often included in the antidiarrheal, gastric, and also mixtures used in diseases of the bladder, mycosis, headache. Decoction of them is used against parasites. Infusion is used for fever. In addition to medical purposes, the roots are used for dyeing fabrics in black, red and brown colors, tanning of the skin. In addition to broths and tinctures, for therapeutic purposes apply ointments. Most often these are remedies for wounds, ulcers and burns. For this purpose, the ground root is boiled in butter (1 tbsp spoon per glass).
