Correct planting of grapes by cuttings

In conditions of nature, without human intervention, grapes can be propagated by seeds with the help of free pollination by some random pollen. Also, grapes can reproduce with layers, while vines that lie freely on the ground take root.

In the cultural reproduction of grapes , vegetative propagation by layers and cuttings is mainly used, while all the varietal properties of grapes are fully preserved. Reproduction by seeds is used for breeding of hybrid forms and new varieties. This should be handled by experienced breeders, since without special knowledge in this area, nothing will happen. In this article, we will consider how to properly plant the grapes with cuttings.

For reproduction, one must take a well-ripened one-year-old vine. In autumn, it should be cut into 3-4 eyes. Particular attention should be paid to the condition of the prepared cuttings. They should be without any signs of disease and without mechanical damage. The most important thing is to be able to keep such cuttings before planting. They should not fall under low temperatures, and also be in an extremely dry place, as they can dry out. There are many methods of storing cuttings. The oldest method is considered by many as the worst, but it is recognized as the most reliable and reliable. This is the storage of cuttings in the soil. Before laying the cuttings for storage, when the weather is very dry, they can be soaked in the water for one day and whiten with lime. Burial cuttings should not be too deep, to a depth of about 30 cm from above, you can pour a small mound.

Also, the correct planting of grapes with cuttings involves preparing the material after digging. The planting of grapes begins with cuttings in the spring somewhere in the middle of April, then the material is extracted from the ground, the lower sections are renewed, left 1 cm from the bottom to the internodes and put the cuttings for soaking in a container with water. The upper kidney should not be lowered into the water. Soaked cuttings 2-3 days. You can put in water some stimulant or 1-2 teaspoons of natural honey. Individual vine-growers for effective rooting cause grooves on the lower region of the cuttings.

The grooves for planting are prepared from such a calculation that the uppermost kidney on the cuttings should be flush with the ground or higher by 1 cm. You can put rotted manure mixed in the grooves, mixed with the ground, but the main thing here is not to overdo it. It is better to locate grooves from east to west, at least on a site that is well illuminated by the sun. Without this, the correct planting of grapes by cuttings is impossible. Cuttings should be planted better with a slope to the north, so that the newly appeared leaves do not obscure the root zone, and it was heated well enough. After the cuttings are planted, they should be watered abundantly with warm (but not hot) water. Around the cuttings the earth should be compacted. Above the cut can be poured a small mound - about 5-8 cm tall. It has one function - to slow the growth of the kidney, in order to allow the roots to develop. The fact is that the kidney can start to grow and from those nutrients that are stored in the cuttings. Spending them and not having their own roots, such cuttings can die. After planting, it is necessary to pay close attention to loosening of the mound if it becomes too dense to water the cuttings and sediments. Watering is required several times a week.

This, of course, is only the initial knowledge of viticulture. Experts can say that the correct planting of grapes with cuttings has many other nuances. However, this is only the basis. Next, each for himself draws conclusions and chooses more appropriate technology. We can say that with such a scheme, the cultivation of grapes by cuttings makes it possible to obtain a fairly strong material for planting with a not too high percentage of unbroken ones.
