I must say that the population of the Southern slope of the Greater Caucasus until 1864 was about 300 thousand people. They were mostly Ubykhs and Shapsugs - initially they professed Christianity, but rather strange, because it clearly felt an admixture of spiritualism and shamanism. However, later they left for Islam - it happened during the time of the Ottoman Empire. What about the then population of Sochi? The number is surprising - it's definitely. This is hard to believe, since the population of Sochi, whose number today is several hundred thousand people, is growing rapidly. And then, it turns out, there was practically no one here. Most of all, of course, in Sochi lived Russian - more than 61%. Slightly less - the Greeks (about 17%). Next came the Circassians (6.2%), followed by Armenians (4%), Moldovans (3.1%), Imeretins, Czechs, Poles, Turks, Estonians, Georgians and, finally, the French - there were only 19 human. This was the population of Sochi at that time. Today everything is different.

Dynamics and growth

The population of Sochi, or rather its strength, has slowly but surely increased. If in 1897 the total population of this city was some 1,300 people (today even more people live in settlements), then this situation has been corrected over the years. Already in 1939, the figure was 72,600 people, among which about 50 thousand residents were urban. For twenty years people in Sochi has become even more - 127,000. Even then it was clear that the city would become a metropolis. Twenty years later, the number of residents grew almost 2.5 times and amounted to 287 300 people. Until 1989, Sochi settled for a few tens of thousands, and now, today the total number of people living in the modern Olympic city (and in the surrounding areas) is almost half a million. As you can see, the pace is increasing, and the population of Sochi, whose number is constantly increasing, also becomes larger.

What is it today?

So, even if we compare the figures for 2013 and 2014, we can observe a solid increase. The number of people living in Sochi has increased by almost thirty thousand (the Central District). However, it is worth noting, it's still a bit for such a big city. After all, we must remember that Sochi is divided into districts, and they can easily be counted for individual settlements. Some, for example, still believe that Adler is a city, not an area. But there are several of them. So, in the Adler district there are about 140 thousand people, in Central there are a little more - about 152 000. In Lazarevskiy there are about 93 000 Sochi residents, and in Hostinsky - 86 000. And the smallest settlement that has direct territorial relation to Sochi is the settlement Urban type of Krasnaya Polyana. Although, of course, the number of people living here is significantly increased in the winter - after all it is, after all, a ski resort, and thousands of people come here to go skiing and snowboarding. Strictly speaking, even before the Olympics Sochi enjoyed a frenzied popularity among Russians and residents of neighboring countries. But after this event, only endless streams of tourists came here. And many people are happy to live. Due to this, the number of residents, respectively, increases. In Sochi, to live well - prices are not as high as they are described, besides, here the sea, mountains, climate, and in general - in such a city you want to be constantly. Considering how much the Olympic has become popular recently, we can expect that in the following years the number of people who live will grow by several tens of thousands, but by hundreds. Fortunately, all the conditions for a good life in the city is - this is another reason why people go here. Sochi is a promising and modern city with a lot of opportunities. And most importantly, the people living in it, helped to make it better.

National composition

This topic is always interesting, especially to people who are not familiar with the culture of a particular city and want to fix it. As already explained, the population of Sochi is a fairly large figure, and it is logical to assume that the national composition is also rich. Russian is still the most - about 70 percent. And, by the way, this indicator is increasing - both due to natural growth, and thanks to the fact that in Sochi residents from other cities and regions of Russia. The number of Armenians living here is about 20% - also a solid figure. Perhaps, these are the two most numerous groups.
