The main characters: "The Tale of Belkin." Characteristics of the main characters

In this article we will consider the famous cycle of Alexander Pushkin - "The Tale of the late Ivan Petrovich Belkin". Especially in detail we will talk about the images of the main characters and their meaning for understanding the whole work.

About the work

"The Story of the late Ivan Petrovich Belkin" (the main characters will be examined below) were written by Pushkin in 1830 in the village of Bolshoe Boldino. All in the cycle included 5 novels, beginning with "Shot" and ending with "The Young lady-peasant woman".

The cycle begins with the preface "From the publisher", the writing of which dates from October to November 1830. For the first time the whole work was published in 1831.

The main character ("The Tale of the late Ivan Petrovich Belkin")

Strictly speaking, it is impossible to identify a single main character of all stories, as in every story he has his own. Nevertheless, there is a character who directly or indirectly unites these stories - this is Ivan Petrovich Belkin himself.

He is a character-narrator, landowner of the village of Goriukhin. The reader knows that he was born in 1789, his father was a second major. He taught his village deacon and through him the hero was addicted to writing. From 1815 to 1823 Belkin served in the Chasseur regiment. He died of a fever in 1828, before he reached the publication of his "own" stories.

Pushkin creates this hero using the following set of literary devices: we learn the life story of Belkin from the letter of a certain "respectable husband", to whom the nearest relative of the deceased Trafilina Maria Alekseevna sends the publisher; To characterize the hero also refers to the epigraph to the entire cycle - the words of the mother about his son Mitrofanushka from the comedy "The Minor" Fonvizin.

This simple-hearted hero-narrator was created by the author in order to unite the literary world and the real Russian province. It is from Belkin that the reader learns all the stories.

Silvio

Pushkin's main characters are very different from each other. "Belkin's novels" in this respect are simply full of dissimilar and original heroes. The clearest example is Silvio, the protagonist of the story "Shot". He is 35 years old, he is a duel officer, who is obsessed with revenge.

Belkin is told about him by Col. ILP, he is a storyteller and a narrative is being written on his behalf. First, the colonel describes personal impressions of the meeting with Silvio, then retells the episode from the words of Count R. This method of narration gives the reader the opportunity to see the protagonist through the eyes of different people. Despite the fact that the points of view are different, the very perception of Silvio is not particularly changing. His permanence is specially emphasized by Pushkin, as well as his striving to seem strange and ambivalent.

Silvio deliberately tries to confuse his actions and disrupts his motives. But the more he does it, the easier it is to see his character. It is not by chance that Pushkin emphasizes the hero's love for novels. It is from here and his frantic desire to revenge. And the fact that in the end, Silvio shoots not at the enemy, but in the picture, does not in the least change the overall situation. The hero remains an unrequited romantic, who already has no place in life.

Marya Gavrilovna

Maria Gavrilovna - the main character of the novel Belkin "Snowstorm". This story was told to Belkin by the girl KIT.

The main character is a 17-year-old pale and slender girl, the daughter of the landowner Nenaradova Gavrila Gavrilovich R. Maria Gavrilovna is endowed with a romantic imagination, that is, she perceives life like a literary work. She is a typical lover of French novels and Russian ballads, recently appeared in the literature.

The main characters of the novel Belkin "Snowstorm", however, like the heroes of other stories and the narrator himself, are infected with a romantic world view. They constantly try to stage a novel in life, but invariably fail.

So, Maria Gavrilovna devises from her love something romantic. Her parents do not like the army warrant officer she chose. Then the heroine decides to marry secretly with him. After that, she sees how the parents first get angry, but then they will forgive and call the children to her. But something goes wrong. And the next day after the escape the heroine renders her own bed, after that she falls ill.

Life makes its adjustments in romantic dreams. The blizzard knocks Vladimir out of the way. And the girl is married to an unknown man. Only in the finals it turns out who he is. Nevertheless, Pushkin very clearly shows how romantic romantic daydreams are not viable.

Adriyan Prokhorov

Prokhorov - the main character of the story Belkin "Undertaker." He serves in Moscow as a coffin maker. His story is told by the clerk BV. Adrian is a gloomy character, nothing pleases him, even the fulfillment of the dream of a lifetime - moving the family from Basmanny to his house on Nikitskaya. But this is not surprising, because Prokhorov is tormented by the practically Hamlet problem - whether or not to be, who is at death, the merchant Tryuhina. And if she dies, then they will send for him or not, because his new home is very far from the place where the dying person lives.

In this story Pushkin's voice is heard most strongly. We hear Pushkin's ridicule in describing the life and thoughts of the protagonist. And soon it becomes clear that the grief and gloom of Adrian is not that he constantly sees death, but that he reduces everything in his life to one thing - whether he benefits from it or not. So, the rain for him is only a source of ruin, and the person is a potential customer. He is reassured by horror, which will catch up with a dream, where the former "clients" are to him. Waking up after a nightmare, he realizes that he can now rejoice.

Samson Vyrin

Samson Vyrin is quite different from the other main characters ("Belkin's Tale"). In the description of it we do not hear Pushkin's ridicule and irony. He is an unhappy man, a stationmaster, an official of the last class, a real martyr. He has a daughter, Dunya, who the traveling hussar took with him to Petersburg.

The story that happened with Vyrin is told by the titular councilor AGN. "Stationmaster" is the key story in the cycle, which confirms the mention of this in the preface. In addition, Vyrin - the most difficult of all the characters of the work.

The life story of the station warden is very simple. After the death of the wife, she takes care of the house and the farm on Dunya's shoulders. A passing hussar of Minsk, struck by the beauty of a girl, dramatizes her illness in order to stay longer in Vyrin's house, and then takes her daughter away. The father goes with his daughter, but this has no result. Minsk first tries to give Vyrin the money, and after Dunya's appearance and her fainting, he throws him out in vain. Abandoned father drinks alone and dies. Dunya comes to his grave to cry in a gilded carriage.

Berestov Alexey Ivanovich

The characters "Maiden-peasant women" are subject to romantic dreams, like almost all the main characters. "The story of Belkin" in this respect is quite an ironic work. The only exception is the story of the station warden.

So, Alexei Berestov comes to his native village of Tugilovo. Here he falls in love with Lisa of Murom, who lives next door. The father of the hero, Russophile and the owner of the cloth factory, can not stand the neighbor of Muromsky, the passionate Anglomana. Alexei himself also strives for everything European and behaves like a dandy. Comic describes Pushkin's enmity of neighbors, obviously making references to the Wars of the Scarlet and White Rose and to the enmity of Capulets and Montagues.

Nevertheless, despite the English Alexei, under his pallor "a healthy blush appears," which fully describes his character. Under the conniving romanticism lies a truly Russian person.

Lisa Muromskaya

Lisa is a 17-year-old daughter of an Anglo-American gentleman who has squandered all his fortune in the capital, so now he lives in the countryside without leaving anywhere. Pushkin makes a count of his county lady. "Belkin's novels" (the main characters are considered by us) are inhabited by heroes, who later turn into literary types. So, Liza is the prototype of a county young lady, and Samson Vyrin is a small man.

Lisa's knowledge of the life of light is gleaned from books, yet her feelings are fresh, and her experiences are sharp. In addition, the girl is endowed with a strong and clear character. Despite the English upbringing, she feels Russian. It is Lisa who finds a way out of the conflict - the children of warring parents can not get acquainted and communicate. The girl disguises herself as a peasant woman, which allows her to see Alexei. The reader sees that Lisa's character is much stronger than her lover's. It is thanks to her that they end up at the end of the story together.

conclusions

Thus, Pushkin shows the reader an incredible variety of characters. Their main characters are amazing and unlike each other. "Belkin's novels" for this reason had such a great success. The work has largely outpaced its time and has many innovative elements.
