Italmas is the flower of Udmurtia. For hundreds of years it has been adorned with its sunny radiance, rich in vegetation floodplain meadows, located along the small and large rivers of this magical land.

Description

The Italian flower, or European bathing suit (Latin name tróllius europaeus), is a herbaceous perennial plant, whose height does not exceed 1 meter. Refers to the family Lyutik. Most often, one plant has no more than five flowers, which exude a subtle honey aroma and never completely unfold. Their diameter is from three centimeters or more. In the photo, the italmas flower is clearly visible, and one can consider that its petals are spherical in shape and have a beautiful golden color.

As you know, this plant pleases its beauty from May to mid-June. From year to year these elegant flowers suffer from incommensurable fees. There are more than 30 types of bathing suits on the planet, however, only one of them is found in Udmurtia. It is listed in the Red Book not only in this republic, but also in some other regions of Russia, as well as near abroad.

Italmas as a symbol of Udmurtia

The name of this flower is very popular in the republic. In many respects this contributed to the famous work of Mikhail Petrov "Italmas". The classic of Udmurt literature created his poem-legend in the distant 1938. It tells about the tragic fate of the girl Italmas, who woke up to the old rich Baitugana, who killed her lover Kamash. The villain set fire to the village and the forest, and burned himself in a conflagration.

Bold Italmas threw herself into the fire and managed to extinguish it, but itself turned into a sunny-golden flower. From now on, for Udmurts, he began to symbolize hope and joy, love and sadness, separation and loyalty.

There are several versions regarding the scientific origin of the name of this flower - tróllius. According to one of them, its name appeared due to the German word trollblume, which in Russian means "troll flower". The fact is that in many Scandinavian and Germanic legends this plant is often mentioned. He was considered the favorite flower of fabulous characters - trolls. According to another version, its name was formed from the Latin trulleus, meaning "round vessel". The next option is the old German word troll, which translates as "ball".

The flower of italmas in Western Europe is considered a mountain plant, and in Eastern - forest glades, river valleys and meadows.

The bathing-place in the people is called differently: the Siberian rose, the blubber, the beater, the bathing-place, the lights, the coachman's grass, the bells, the carving, the trolly, the frying, the swimsuit.
