What is Mora's salt capable of?

Walking the other day in the park, I saw my old friends. Having joined the company, involuntarily took part in their earlier discussion. The topic was not one of the most familiar - non-humanitarian profile. But I became interested and involuntarily listened, trying to get into the conversation. Very enthusiastic friends talked. They talked about some kind of interesting chemical substance. I, like a man terribly far from science, thought that the speaker was mistaken, using an incomprehensible name - "salt of mora". Maybe he just made a reservation, or I misheard. Apparently, it came about sea salt, and on this topic, my friend recently returned from a tour to Israel recently enlightened me.

There she gloriously rested on the shores of the Dead Sea, and now became a zealous activist of applying cosmetics based on sea minerals and salts. She also brought a large jar with food sea salt from the trip. Propagated to me all the benefits of using this kind of salt, enriched with iodine and trace elements.

Having become interested, I asked again if there is salt in the dead sea. But, it turned out, the first time I heard correctly. The theme of the conversation was not the sea. It was, indeed, Mor's salt. I was told that this is a chemical substance of inorganic origin, which looks like crystals of pale blue-green color. I am ready to bet, they did not expect that I will be able to remember this when the salt of the sea was called "crystalline hydrate of double ammonium-ferric sulfate". Because they explained that otherwise the substance is called a double sulfuric acid salt of ammonium and ferrous oxide.

The short name is the salt of mora (the formula FeSO 4 × (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 × 6H 2 O and the internationally recognized name "Mohr's salt" was reviewed by me on the Internet in the evening). The main components: iron, sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen. Microdol is allowed the presence of foreign impurities (chlorine, manganese, copper, lead and some others).

The substance is able to dissolve in water and in acids (more so). In air, it is a stable compound. Application finds in many industries. For example, in chemistry - to analyze the concentration of the substance in solutions (for potassium permanganate - to establish a titer, with volumetric determination of vanadium, chromium, ether and ethyl alcohol). Salt also found application in wood processing - a highly concentrated solution is used to impregnate wood to prevent decay.

During the current conversation, the topic of the use of Mor's salt in pharmacology and medicine was touched upon. It can be used as a food supplement, and can also be used to increase the number of blood cells, raising the level of hemoglobin in the blood. It is also used to detect urobilin in urine, a substance that indicates kidney problems. The usefulness of this salt is due to the significant content of ferrous oxide, which can easily be absorbed by the human body.

It seemed funny that for the second time in a week, different people tell me about the benefits of unusual salt. Apparently, this is a sign that you need to pay more attention to your health and start eating not just cooking salt, but something more useful. Not Mora - this supplement can be prescribed only by a doctor, but at least I pass on iodized if I can not get Israeli. Or maybe even buy the mineral salt of the dead sea, so that the bath with her take, the nerves calm.
