"Tobrex" is a medicinal product used for the treatment of blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis, iridocyclitis. The drug is also effective for the prevention of postoperative complications in ophthalmology. The main form of the drug is ointment, which is placed in tubes of aluminum. It has a homogeneous consistency, white color.

The drug contains the following active substance: tobramycin. Ancillary components include anhydrous chlorobutanol, mineral oil, white petrolatum.

Tobramycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is part of the pharmacological group of aminoglycosides. At low concentrations, it exhibits bacterioscopic effects (blocks the subunits of the ribosome, breaks the synthesis of protein molecules). When using higher concentrations of the drug, bactericidal action is observed. The drug leads to the death of a microbial cell by disrupting the functions of cytoplasmic membranes. The drug has an effect on many gram-positive, gram-negative microorganisms

In eye infections, small amounts of ointment should be applied to conjunctival sacs of the affected eyes two to three times during the day. As the symptoms of inflammation decrease, it is necessary to reduce the dose of the drug until it is completely canceled. When eye infections are acute, it is necessary to apply ointment in conjunctival eye bags three to four times during the day. The course of therapy is ten days. The drug is safe for children, newborns. After applying the drug, it is recommended to press the nasolacrimal canal, to cover the eyelids. This significantly reduces absorption to the systemic bloodstream, which may be accompanied by the appearance of toxic effects.
