Antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action

Antimicrobial agents (antibiotics) refer to medicinal products used in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms. Antibiotics can not only prevent the reproduction of microbes, but also kill them. Bacteria are a great variety. Each differs from each other in the features of reproduction, structure, nutrition. Therefore, not every preparation of a group of antibiotics can cope with all kinds of microorganisms.

In medical practice, unique drugs are used that can fight many types of bacteria. These drugs are effective in treating a large number of diseases. Such medicines include broad-spectrum antibiotics. They are used to treat diseases of the respiratory system (bronchitis, pneumonia), digestive organs (dysentery, salmonellosis), ENT - organs (angina, sinusitis, otitis), genital organs (chlamydosis, gonorrhea, syphilis), urinary system (pyelonephritis, urethritis, cystitis ).

Antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action are preparations concerning groups:

  1. Penicillins: "Amoxicillin", "Augmentin", "Ampicillin", "Oxacillin", "Penicillin".

  2. Cephalosporins: "Cephalexin", "Zephaxim", "Ceftriaxone", "Cephilim", "Ceftobiprol".

  3. Macrolides: "Erythromycin", "Clarithromycin".

  4. Tetracyclines: Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Minocycline.

  5. Aminoglycosides: "Kanamycin", "Gentamicin", "Azithromycin"

  6. Fluoroquinolones - "Levofloxacin", "Ciprofloxacin".

Each individual group is effective against certain microorganisms. The peculiarity is connected with different mechanisms of medicines influence.

    Popular broad-spectrum antibiotics

    • Penicillins - preparations of bactericidal properties. The principle of action is based on the destruction of the bacterial membrane, which leads to the death of the latter. Penicillins are broad spectrum antibiotics. They are so called because of the special effectiveness against a large number of bacteria: staphylococci, streptococci, causative agents of gonorrhea, syphilis, meningitis. The drugs are used in the treatment of inflammatory processes of the respiratory system, ENT - system.

    • Cephalosporins destroy the bacterial membrane and have a bactericidal property. This is a large group. It includes five generations of medicines.

    • Macrolides are endowed with a bacteriostatic property. They penetrate into the cells and "find" microbes in them. The drugs are used in the treatment of inflammation caused by chlamydia, toxoplasma, microplasmas. In addition, the group is effective in otitis media, pharyngitis.

    • Tetracyclines have a bacteriostatic property, are prescribed in the treatment of syphilis, gonorrhea, and microplasmosis.

    • Aminoglycosides are used in the treatment of urinary tract, furunculosis.

    • Fluoroquinolones are capable of acting destructively on the synthesis of the genetic structure of bacteria. Effective for infections of the respiratory system, urogenital organs, meningitis.

In addition to these drugs, antibiotics have the same effect: "Levomycetin", a group of sulfonamides, "Metronidazole", enteroseptics and uroseptics.

      Broad-spectrum antibiotics for children

Specialists in most cases prescribe antibiotics to children. They are necessary when the exact cause of the disease is not fully revealed and the diagnosis remains questionable. In such a situation it is antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action that will help to suppress the infection. However, it is not recommended to abuse potent drugs. Especially without a pediatrician, it is strictly forbidden to arbitrarily give babies even the best antibiotics.

Available drugs in our time abound. But one should not prescribe one's own treatment and take drugs uncontrolled. First of all, you need to consult a doctor.
