The drug "Albucid" (eye drops) - instruction for use

Drops of "Albucid" ("Sulfacetamide") are designed to treat eye diseases caused by pathogens. The active substance in them is sodium sulfacil, belonging to the class of sulfonamides.

Sulfacil sodium is an effective antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent. It is effective against streptococci and gonococci, pneumococci and Escherichia coli. Its action is based on the violation of the formation in the body of bacteria of vital substances for them. Not being an antibiotic, this sulfanilamide drug inhibits the multiplication of pathogens, which ultimately leads to their death.

Sulfacil sodium is available as a solution for injection (5 ml), 20% or 30% eye drops, 30% ointment and in other dosage forms. This drug is used in the treatment of pneumonia and purulent tracheobronchitis, infections of the urinary tract. With these diseases, it is administered twice a day intramuscularly or intravenously. Long healing wounds infected with Escherichia coli are sprinkled with sodium sulfacyl powder. However, this drug found the widest application in ophthalmology: it is very soluble in water, perfectly absorbed into the eye tissues and effectively cures their infectious diseases.

The drug "Albucid" (eye drops) instruction recommends the use for the treatment of conjunctivitis, blepharitis (purulent inflammation of the eyelids), keratitis (inflammation of the cornea). In addition, it is used to prevent purulent inflammation of the outer shell of the eyes in newborns - blenorei. Drops of "Albucid" instruction in this case prescribes to use twice: immediately after the birth of a newborn, two drops of the drug are injected into each eye, then two more - two hours later.

Before assigning this drug to a patient, it makes sense to conduct a test for the sensitivity of the microflora to it, which caused the disease. The recommended dose of the drug and the duration of treatment depend on the diagnosis of the patient and the degree of inflammation. In the acute period of the disease, the drug "Albucid" (eye drops) instruction is recommended to apply up to six times a day - in this case 2-3 drops drop into each eye. The maximum single adult dose of the medication is 2 g, and the daily dose is 7 g. As the patient's condition improves, the drug is digested less often. It should be remembered that children's drops have a lower concentration of active substance - 20% (adults - 30%).

The drug "Albucid" (eye drops) - the instruction warns about it - with prolonged use it can cause a burning sensation on the mucous membrane. Often it occurs immediately after the beginning of the use of drops and is accompanied by swelling of the eyelids, lacrimation and reddening of the eyes. This indicates an increased sensitivity to the drug - in this case, its use will have to be abandoned, replacing another drug with a similar effect.

Using the drug "Albucid" (droplets), you should follow certain precautions. So, its hit on contact lenses can spoil them, violating the transparency, so before using the drug, they need to be removed.

As for interaction with other drugs, the use, in particular, of local anesthetics, weakens the action of the drug "Albucid" (eye drops) - the instruction draws special attention to this. In general, this drug is well tolerated by patients, does not cause side effects and effectively, quickly eliminates infectious eye diseases. Some doctors advise that it should be applied even in the common cold, but this recommendation can be justified only in case of bacterial infection, on the third or fourth day of the disease.

Drops of "Albucid" are released without a prescription. Use them is necessary within a month after opening the vial.
